How do you install a second DVD drive in the Gateway DX4860?

1 Remove the front panel
2 insert a wide screwdriver in one of the horizontal slots on the metal plate and rock it up and down. This willbreak the seals on the edges.
3 Discard the plate.
4. You can then slide the drive in from the front.

How do I get the cd/dvd player into the slots that are blocked

The plastic front panel will have removeable plastic panels the size of the CD/DVD drive, these are held in place by clips, you can push the panel out.
You can also remove plastic front panel, it may be secured by screws or plastic clips. When you remove the plastic front panel the CD/DVD drive slot may be covered with a metal plate, you can remove this plate by bending the metal plate back and forth until it breaks away from the drive bay.

Can I install wifi card on M5641?

According to the Acer Support web site for your desktop computer you should have one or two free PCI slots that could be used if you decide to add a wireless lan card.

The alternative would be get a USB wireless adapter that wouldn't need you to open the computer case and have the advantage that you could plug the adapter in to a USB extension cable and position the wireless adapter to maximise the wireless signal.

Opening and closing for insenrting a DVD,giving shocks from compo

I think in opening and closing the top case, you have either removed the earth connection or have let the top case metal part in touch with live wire.

Nextbase slot-in portable DVD player with a stuck DVD.

You can either use a paper clip and bend the metal so a long metal part pokes out. Push this metal part of the paper clip into the DVD player where there is a small hole for emergency openings when no power is available to DVD players. The other option is to unplug the DVD player, then unscrew the casing off the DVD player and then you can manually use your hands to remove the DVD. Cheers, eiger3790.

Dvd is not working, tv work just fine

My grandson's Lightning McQueen dvd player was acting up. The tray would come out about a 1/4 inch and then go back in. Once I got the tip on how to remove the case, I was able to access the dvd player. You must remove all four screws from the bottom of the unit. Carefully remove the smile from the front of the tray. After that you can slide the black tabs toward the front and get to the dvd player. To remove the dvd player, first carefully disconnect all the plugs from the back of the player, better to use a needle nose pliers than to try to grasp each connector with thumb and forefinger as you might inadvertantly pull a wire out of it's connector plug.. Now on each side of the player are two detent tabs. With two small pairs of pliers or needle nose pliers, pull the detents out a little on both sides and then the dvd player will slide out. It helps if you have a third hand to pull the player while you gently pull the detents out a bit. Once out, I removed the four bottom screws and the two top ones that are under the silver tape. Lift up the top from the rear and slide back a little then off. Once the metal cover is off, you must remove the four screws that hold the plastic part of the player to the metal base of the case. I discovered that the tray had jumped off it's track, or rather was probably forced off it's track by my grandson's pulling or pushing the tray too hard. If the tray comes out manually, then the small drive belt from the slide motor is probably suspect. Replace the belt. If the belt is ok, but the slide is off it's track, then carefully pull on the sides outboard from the tray, I was able to put the tray back on it's track. It's a small white pin or tab that rides inside a long track on one side of the tray. Leave the tray slide out while you are putting the four screws back in holding the player to the metal base. Put the metal top back on with the open end on the slide end and press is down onto the metal base. Replace the top two and four bottom screws. Before you slide the player back throught the detents, aim the extended slide throught the slot in the front of the case and snap the smile back on. If you don't have the slide out and it gets pushed back into the player, the slide will lock in and you won't be able to snap the smile back onto the front of the slide. After that you can pop the players notches back into the detents. Plug all connectors back into the back of the player. Align the tabs through the slots on the bottom of the unit and slide them back until the four screw holes line up. Put the four bottom screws back in. Put the cover back on allign it so that the two screws that go to the case on each side that were hidden by the fenders. Replace the top two screws and the two counter sunk screws where the video and audio inputs are on the back. Replace the wheels. Each wheel must go back on it's correct side, Line up the tab and the space in the back of the wheel and push the wheel back in on each side. Replace the three screws in the middle of each wheel and put each fake lug nut back into place. Use a small pair of pliers to gently squeeae the tabs of the lug nuts so that they will go in the slots easier. Plug the unit back in, turn on and after you select dvd, then you can press the open/close button for the tray to come out.
No parts were needed, as the one small drive belt that comes off the tray motor had not stretched or broke. Great patience is needed just for the removal and replacement of the back of the case.

Yamaha s2500 dvd player

Hello, frustrated Yamaha owners.

I have destroyed two of these machines to remove my precious CD's. I did discover this today:

1. There is a fuse but it is soldered onto its circuit board.
2. There is no easy way, like using a paperclip on the old computer cd-rom drives, to release the cd/dvd tray. However, when I destroyed my second player, I noted there is a rather large piece of metallic tape on the bottom of the player to the right side of the front of the drive on the metal bottom cover plate of the machine. It is covering a slot about an inch long. If you carefully remove the tape and use, say a phillips head screwdriver, starting at the right side of the slot as you face the front of the player, you can slide a plastic bar that will free-up the tray slightly allowing one to pull the tray out and save the cd or dvd. I would do this with the player upright but hanging over the edge of a table so that the freed cd doesn't bang around against something in the process.

For what it is worth, I hope this helps.

Yamaha should be ashamed of producing a product at this price point with an issue like this. At the very least there should be a fail-safe way of removing a cd/dvd from the drive regardless of the issue with the electronics or drive mechanism.
