New Crucial 2x2GB modules not working on boot-up

Just bought a new 4GB set from Crucial UK (from automatic recommeneded upgrade tool).- 2x 2GB http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=ABDCB14BA5CA7304 Currently got 2x 1GB Ballistix. Only either ONE of the new 2GB modules will work by itself without any other of the aforementioned modules. But when both new modules, or any other combination are put in together, the machine will not boot. Have tried everything / all combinations but am absolutely stumped on this one. PC will work as normal when Ballistix modules are put back in into their original state. Any help much-appreciated

SOURCE: Too much memory for Giga-Byte K8M800-8237

The issue of this is not too much capacity on your memory., i tell you the problem is incompatible both of them. Check again your memory and what brand are there.
Because something motherboard settings are being notify if reliable to you to use different kind of RAM you have. Read the motherboard manual to find out some settings to enable both of them are not the same brand or model.

"P" stands for "parity" and "E" stands for ECC (Error Checking & Correcting)

To determine which memory modules will work in your PC, visit the Crucial web site at: www.crucial.com and use their memory selection software. You will have to allow the site to scan your system.

I upgraded Memory to 4GB with Two 2GB SD Ram Modules but System shows Only One 2GB module and does not show/recognize second module. BIOS Setting Shows Second Slot/RAM Module Not Activated.

is the module in properly?,is anything broken?? switch them around and see if the module is good or not, also, just because the motherboard supports 2 modules,if intel only recognizes 2gb then that is all, whether you have 2 1gb modules or 2 2gb modules, upgrade your intel chip and upgrade your bios

I want to add 4GB of DDR3 memory, what further info to I need to know about the memory?

Newegg has a great site to find the correct and most compatible memory for you Here.
To maximize your ram speed, use the same speed and types of ram

For example, if you have a 1GB right now, add three more 1GB than putting in a 2GB and 1GB.
If you have a 4GB ram stick right now, add another 4GB and not 2x2GB. Also make sure the MHz on the ram is the same, (1333, 1600, 2000)

Enjoy upgrading your computer!

I'm having a real problem using my Acer8920g set-up with dual channel memory. Basically I get a lot of screen freezes and blue screens when both these ram modules are installed. I have two identical...

when you test the ram modules separately, did you test them in the same bay...or have you tested both sticks separatly in both bays?

this sounds like a non responsive ram bay and may indicate that you need a new motherboard. Check to see if your motherboard has any bulging capacitors or other visual dammage.

I have an Asus P5N-D motherboard and I'm looking for the best DIMMS to go with it. I like OCZ but it is not on the QVL. Also, if I'm running xp pro, why can't I use 2 2gb boards? Especially, if I upgrade...

Hello,

First, as for the "best"...I have had good results with Kingston, Crucial, Samsung and Hynix. If you purchase through Kingston or Crucial, they will guarantee compatiblity. If you go off the QVL you take a chance of it not working.

As for using 2X2GB modules, I believe you can, however using XP and Vista 32-bit systems, it will only register a max of 3.5GB. (I am running XP Pro with 4X1GB modules and it only shows 3.5GB. I also plan on going to Windows 7.) This has to do with the limitations of a 32-bit system to address all the available memory.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Number of Slots:
Slot 1 Slot 2 Normally you will find the 2 slots, one above the other.
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300,DDR2 PC2-4200 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.*
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory. Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules. Make sure that both are fully seated prior to powering up the laptop.

System failed to boot when installing additional 2X 1GB RAMs.

you need to place them on your motherboard where the memory is installed. Place in the order of one new, one old, one new, one old stick. that way they run in dual channel.
