"The RPC server is unavailable" (by 2 users)

When I try to install the driver for Reaktej AC'97 Audio I get the error message "Setup failed to launch installation engine: The RPC server is unavailable. I've tried to open "net start rpcss" in "Run". What should I do?

While installing the Audio Divers - Crystal CS4205 Driver on the Dell Latitude D400 Laptop., i get an Error - '' Setup failed to launch installation engine: The RPC server is unavailable.''

I treid to start al the Remote cal procedure services, but still no go.
Kindly suggest.

I?m assuming this is happening on a Windows machine. This is one of the really vague error messages that Microsoft give for an incredibly large number of problems. I typically see this on servers but have seen it occur on workstations. If you?re running XP, 2000 (server or Pro), or 2003:

- Check and make sure your Remote Procedure Call Service is running.
- There is an older vulnerability that tries to use a flaw in the RPC services. It is fixed if you copy of Windows is up to date so make sure it is.
- Review your application log for any clues.

If you need more assistance let us know your operating system, if it is fully patched and what is showing in your log file around the time you receive the error message.

Hi, If that doesn't work try the following :-

1.open a Command Prompt window(click start--
-->run--->type cmd and press OK)
2.key sc config spooler depend= RPCSS (note
the space after depend=) and press Enter.
Try reinstalling the printer.
Or
1. Start / Run / MSConfig / OK.
2. Select the Services tab.
3. Make sure that each of the following
services is checked:
Plug and Play
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Remote Access Connection Manager
4. Press Apply.
5. Press Close.
6. Press the Restart button.
If the services can not be started from within msconfig try starting them from services.msc (start run services.msc etc...)

Try reinstalling the printer software.
