hooked rugs produce the highest amount of friction opposing the brush rotation, which can over heat the drive motor. try using a height setting that raises the brush so that it barely touches the pile. If this issue has been going on for some time, you may need to replace the drive motor.

Dyson DC25 Agitator rattling

Hi Adnan, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC25's brush bar. I would encourage you to follow the steps shown in the video attached to ensure there is nothing in the cleaner head jamming the brush bar, and no threads or hair wrapped around the brush bar itself. Make sure the endcap is also fitted correctly and locked into position - a coin can be used to lock the catch.

For any further advice after you've given this a try, please contact our experts directly by calling the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA). If a repair or replacement part is needed, we'll be able to confirm if this is covered under your machine's 5-year guarantee.

Best wishes,

Jack

My dyson DC24 makes a horrible noise when the brush is spinning.... like it's not stable.

Hi Michelle, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. The rattling noise could be caused by something obstructing the brush bar. Please take a look at the video attached, and make sure the cleaner head is free of blockages, and the brush bar is free of any threads or hair. Once you've removed the brush bar, check both this and the cleaner head for any visible damage.

Once you've reassembled the machines, please test it to see if it's still making the unusual noise. If it is, our experts will be happy to help further - and if a replacement part is needed, they can confirm if we're able to order this under the terms of your machine's 5-year guarantee.

You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Best wishes,

When i set the floor setting to carpet, it makes a nasty rattling noise. doesn't do it on bare floor setting

Hi,

There is one major difference between the hard floor setting and the carpet setting - the brushbar doesn't spin on the hard floor setting. Hopefully this is a simple problem - the rattling noise suggests there may be something trapped behind the brush rollers. You can inspect this by removing the sole plate from the vacuum. Doing this may allow any trapped objects to fall out without need for any further inspection:

To remove the sole plate:

1. Lie the dyson on it's side so you can access the underside or sit on a chair, turn the vacuum upside down and hold it between your knees.
2. Using a coin or a large flat-bladed screwdriver undo the two yellow fasteners on either side of the "sole plate" which covers the brush rollers.
3. Pivot the back edge of the sole plate upwards and remove it

Any loose debris can now be easily removed, While the sole plate is removed, it is a good opportunity to inspect the brushes and remove anything else that may be stuck to it.

Replacing the sole plate is the exact reverse of the removal process. Before replacing the sole plate, ensure that the brush bar is correctly and fully inserted.

There are other possible reason for the rattling noise, but your description leads me to believe that this should cure the fault. Inspect the brushbar first and then post back if you need further assistance.

BElectric

Burning smell loud grinding noise when tilted

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. The rattle is the clutch engaging. It can happen for a couple of reasons. The best case for you is if there is something caught in the brush roller that you can simply remove. The next best is that the end caps of the brush are full of junk that you will be able to remove. Its not easy getting the brush out to clean there but it can be done.
If the brush spins in your hand easily when the brush is removed then it is the clutch itself. THe main roller often melts which is caused when the tension on the belt gets to high thus creating too much heat. THis can be resolved only with a new clutch.
Hope this helps, if you have more questions dont hesitate to reply or if you need parts just visit

Happy Vacuuming :)

The beater bar seems to have worn and is loose. (very noisy) the vacuum still works but the beater bar rattles.

Not sure how I can help, as it seems you know what the problem is! Fit a new brush bar! On some Dyson models (not sure if the DC17 is one of them) you have to fit a new sole plate at the same time - they are supplied together as a kit. Good luck.

I ran over a shoe lace and now it is making a loud rattling noise

The All Floors model has a protective belt clutch system and the rattling sound means the clutch has slipped. This would have to be repaired officially by a Dyson repairer.

Correct position of beater bar on a Dyson DC14?

I had the same problem. I removed the brush from the machine. The brush should move freely when removed. If it doesn't move freely, pull the ends from the brush, both ends come off(one will have a rod fixed to it). I would suggest you clean the ends and the inside of where the ends sit on the brush. I applied a little grease on both end housings(inside end housing) if no grease available try washing up liquid. Put the brush ends back on the brush. I then spun the brush to check that it moved freely. It should move freely, if it does fit it back on the machine and it should be silent. If you cant get it to move freely I suggest a replacement brush. Tip: I used a blunt knife and placed it through the belt to avoid removal of the belt. Good luck. Cheers Jason
