Question about HP Pavilion Computers & Internet

1 Answer

BIOHD-4/-3 Error Since the just before the turn of the year, my PC stopped booting. It would appear to start after all the standard bios messages, and then I'd get a black screen with a cursor and nothing more would happen. I ran the hardware diagnostics HP included with the bios and all the hardware would check out as ok, but I'd get a BIOHD-4 error code for the MBR. I created a Windows Repair disk (Not to be confused with a Windows Restore disk) on another computer. I tried unsuccessfully to repair the MBR using the repair disk tools, but wound up having to delete the entire volume and start over with a new volume and partition. I then ran the reinstall disks successfully and managed to get the system back up. This worked for a while, but then the problem came back. This time I replaced the HDD with a new one, but now I can't even boot with either of the two DVD drives on the system, and the hardware test now produces BIOHD-3 error. All my settings in the BIOS are configured for the CDs/DVDs to come first in the boot order. Any idea what the problem is and how I might solve it?

@Lou, Can't even get to anything bootable, let alone boot to safe mode... @Djones09, Already tried that with a completely new drive...no dice. @joe, Not sure that will work. I can't even boot from a bootable CD/DVD. That and I don't have a bootable BIOS diagnostic utility...

Can you double check the cables that you have connecting to your drives and make sure that they are properly seated and there are no kinks/cracks or any other issues. Additionally, make sure to reload the default parameters from your BIOS (press F10 at load to get to the BIOS screen) and probably change the first boot device to your DVD drive.

Error unitialized corrupt boot structure detected biohd-4 boot path, keep getting this after trying to install windows 7, cant boot disk anymore so cant install windows 7

try repairing the file system using chkdsk with /f switch. However, it is strongly recommended to run this tool only if you have a full data backup
. To do so, click \'Start\' and then \'Run\'. You can then type \'chkdsk /f <drive name>\' in the \'Open\' box and click OK. Here, the drive name should be exactly what is appearing in error message. Alternatively, you can opt for deleting the corrupt partition provided the backup is available. If no good backup exists, you should consider to use a Windows Data Recovery utility. These are powerful and valid Windows partition recovery utilities built to scan the corrupt or deleted partitions and safely recover the lost data. The applications are easy to install and use.

I have an HP Pavilion Elite m9150f desktop PC. I'm getting ''Boot Path error code BIOHD-5 Failed''.

Could be one of two things: either the BIOS has lost the settings for the hard drive, which is uncommon unless the PC is more than 5 years old or been electrically shocked, or the hard drive is going bad. hard drives usually only last about 3-5 years on average. Western Digital even less.

I have an ei system 103a desktop i have had to sytem restore now when i turn pc on it tells me to press f1 to start windows i have tried going into the bios and boot from hardisk but still have the problem...

The 'Press F1 to continue" message is a result of an error caused as the BIOS does its hardware checks during the boot process.

The BIOS boot process (bootstrap) preceeds the loading of the operating system.

The most amusing example of this occurs if you unplug a ps2 keyboard,
1, it generates the error
2, pressing F1 does no good because the keyboard is not plugged in.
3, if its ps2, you will need to do a hardware reset after plugging the keyboard in again.

The bios can be set to 'halt on'
'no errors' which will stop the error message appearing.
'keyboard errors' see above
'all errors' any hardware failure detected by the bios will halt the boot process and give the above message.
