Question about Refrigerators

Refrigerator not cold, freezer only cool

Hello, I have a GE model PDE18LBRARSS. The fridge is warm and the freezer cooler than usual. The other night the fridge wok me up as it was making a fairly loud noise, which eventually stopped. I've looked at the ouside back and there was some accumulation of dust which I removed. I adjusted the temperature controls, turning them off and back on. The door is properly closed. I can hear a small fan-like noise but the the full usual sound indicating that the fridge is working as usual. I also ensured that the electrical plug and outlet are ok as well as the breakers, and all seems fine from an electrical in-home point of view. Grateful for any advice. JB

When i open the freezer's door and hold the door switch which turns off the light, there is no discernible difference in terms of hearing the fan running faster or slower. The freezer part I can see some amount of "steam" and the food is still cold, but the main fridge part is where the lack of cold of cold is most noticeable. Regardless of changes made to the temerature control, there is no change. There is no large amount of frost anywhere in the fridge even with the controls at the coldest.

There is a set of coils in the front down at the bottom behind a plastic cover. Sounds like they need to be cleaned with a steel brush.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am unsure which part of the fridge being referred to. There is a plastic black strip outside the fridge right under the freezer door. That black plastic strip is easily removable but seems to be more for decorative purposes as behind it can be found the metal part of the fridge's body. The other location which you could be referring to is the platic strip which is white located in the fridege itself. It has those little vents-like openings. This is the one I suppose you are referring to. Unfortunately, this plastic part is incorporated into the structure and i don't see any reasonable way to remove it without risking damage to the appliance. Do you have any set of instructions referring to the removal of this plastic part inside the fridge (if that is indeed the one being referred to?). Thanks for the help.

SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

SOURCE: freezer works but fridge remains warm.

The same fan that circulates air in the freezer also blows air in to the fridge. If you open the freezer door and hold the door switch closed you should hear the fan running. If not you have a failed motor or motor control. Look at the back wall of the freezer section and see if there is a heavy frost build up. If so. you have a defrost system problem. Please post back with what you find and with the complete model number and I will try to walk you through the steps of checking everything.
Thanks/Mike

Problem seems to be solved. I unplugged it for a short time and plugged it back in. I'm guessing it needed to be re-set.

SOURCE: Honeywell compact refrigerator model #

It seem this problem is common to all 88031. One of my customer have 8 of this model in her motel rooms and all problems are the same as your's. My experience in refrigeration and electronic board tell to me this problem is from the fact of humidity comming from everyware(diff. of tempereture, electronic board near the floor, heating from the refrigerator, etc. I find a lot of trace of humidity on the board.
Anyway, like we said in Abitibi, your dog is dead and the only solution is to litter it in a safe place and by a new but this time with a compressor to make cooling, not a fuc.......electronic board.

Hello:
Check if there is any frost buildup on the back wall inside freezer. Maybe your defrost system failed and ice is blocking the air flow(no air flow you just got a cooler )
