I have a wireless adapter on my xbox and it picks up the signal of my router but when i go to use it it asks me for a WPA key and when i type in my security password it says no connection! Also when i try to find a wireless i type in my SSID and say no security it still says no connection i will try anything thanks!!
I would guess you are entering something incorrect with your security. If the wireless adapter on your XBOX wants a WPA then the wireless it is picking up has security on it however, it may be incorrectly set using WEP or WPA radius. Here is what *I* would do. Log in to your wireless router and remove all security. Go back to your XBOX and look for the signal for your wireless network. Now try to connect. Wireless connections can be a pain to configure sometimes but start first with no security and work yourself up. IF you can't get it working with security, make up a goofy SSID with NO security but don't broadcast it then you can connect the manual way through your XBOX specifying the SSID (not broadcasted) and no security that should do it. (Just a side note for my XBOX I bought a cheap Belkin 4 port router made it an access point for my existing wireless network and hardwired my XBOX to it. Works fine.)

Did it ask you to enter a security or web key. most systems require that to verify a secure network. You can find the key on the back or bottom of the router.
Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On
the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings ->
Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path
is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the
wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the
SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise,
select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the
mode used by wireless routers.)
Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your
router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox
does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to
use WEP encryption instead.
Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter
supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740)
only supports WEP.
Save your settings and verify the network is functional.
On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a
connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the
Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully
been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.
On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.

Run the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor by double-clicking this icon at the bottom-right corner of your screen. If you don't see the Wireless Network Monitor icon, click here.
Step 2: Click the Site Survey tab and select the name of your wireless network or SSID, then click Connect. In this example, we used a wireless USB adapter. NOTE: images may differ depending on the model number of the adapter. Step 3: If the software is asking for a WEP key, enter the WEP key on the WEP Key 1 field. If the software is asking for a WPA-Personal key, enter the WPA key on the Passphrase field
I assume the wireless router is configured correctly and the PC can connect to the wireless router and the Internet.
The problem could be that the signal is too weak upstairs for the XBox especially if you have a concrete floor between the XBox and the wireless router. Try moving the wireless router around to increase signal strength to the CBox.
The other problem could be the XBox is not configured correctly.
Follow these instructions to configure the XBox.
In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open System Settings.
Select Network Settings, Configure Network.
On the Basic Settings tab, select your wireless settings.
Select the name (SSID) of your wireless network. If your router isn't broadcasting your network's name, select Specify Unlisted Network and enter the name.
If your network has wireless security, enter your WEP or WPA key.
The Wep Key is located in the wireless router settings and will not be found on the network adapter. The network adapter needs the wep or wpa key to connect to the wireless router. You will need to use a computer hooked up directly to the router and enter the router settings menu to find or change the wep or wpa key. Most routers use 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to enter the router menu. When you input the IP address above a screen should come up asking for a username and password. Enter those and that will allow you to get into the router menu. If you do not know the username and password you can reset the router with the reset button and that will restore the default password which is usually no username and password is admin.
You access the setup screen on a Linksys router by going to http://192.168.1.1 in your web browser. When asked for the username and password, the defaults are a blank username and "admin" for the password. Of course, if you changed them you'll use that information.
On the wireless settings screen, make sure the mode is set to either "mixed" or "G-only". The default SSID (network name) is "linksys". Change this to something else so you'll be able to easily identify the network when you connect from the wireless computer. The default wireless channel is 6. From the drop-down list, pick a different one. All Linksys routers start with channel 6, so using a different channel can help prevent interference which slows the network. Under wireless security, choose "WEP". If your wireless adapter supports it (most do), pick "WPA Pre-shared key" for the mode and "TKIP" for the algorithm. WPA is more secure. (If you really want to, you can disable wireless security. It makes connecting very easy, but then anybody in range could use your network. Let them pay for their own service!) If you've picked "WEP", enter a passphrase in the box, press the generate button, and record the key that's generated. This will be the key you need to enter in your wireless adapter so it can access the network. (Some adapters let you enter the same passphrase you put in the router and generate the key automatically. If yours does, do that. It's easier than entering the long key value.) If you picked "WPA", enter the keyphrase in the box. This is what will also go into the wireless adapter. Save the router settings and close your browser window.
Now when your wireless computer shows you a list of networks you'll know which is yours, and when you try to connect you can give the proper key. Once you've done that, the information is saved so connecting is automatic in the future.
Hope this helps. Your screens may not look the same as mine if your router is a later software version, so some of the terms may be sightly different. But the basic steps and required information will be the same.
Reset your AX by holding a pin or pen tip and count to 20. Plug Airport Express Wait a few minutes
1. Open Airport Utility 2. Manual Setup 3. Airport Icon -> Wireless Mode -> Join a wireless network 4. Network Name -> Enter the SSID of your Linksys router 5. Choose the same wireless security that you are using on your Linksys Router 6. Wireless Password -> Enter the wireless key that is on your Linksys router.
In the Music Icon, you should be able to find "Enable iTunes"
AX will continue to blink for a bit, perhaps a minute, while it searches and connects to the Linksys Router.
maybe. do you have internet connection in your house? if so the wireless adapter should pick up the signal. i myself have xbox 360 live and use a wireless adapter. It also might just be your adapter. lots of people use the ethernet cables that came free with the xbox and plug them into a modem. connection is more fullproof then wireless.
Is it a passphrase or WPA Key (usually 128bit or 64bit). A passphrase is usually something like "john" or "myNetwork"
