Question about E-Machines T6520 PC Desktop

1 Answer

The computer starts but won't boot up all the way.

When I turn the power strip on that the compter and all its attachments are plugged into. The computer comes on automatically without me having to push the button on the eMachine T6520. But it does not boot up all the way. There is only the big "E" on the monotor, and the computer will not do anything. The keyboard does not come on, nor the speakers. The fans in the computer are all 3 running, but the mouse does not work. The little amber light that usually blinks when there is any activity going on is not on at all.

Will this wipe out everything on my hard drive? My photos? My music?

  • cagiemoore Jan 24, 2009

I took out the power pack to measure it to order another one, and while I had it out I hit it a few times and put it back in the computer, and turned on the computer and it booted up this time, and everything was normal.

I ran AVG to scan for viruses that may have caused the crash, but no viruses were found.

I am so glad I got it back up again. I will be ordering a new power pack and a new hard drive to have as an extra to back up everything.

    Thanks for your help.

Check the source of power to your computer. Your computer should be plugged into a protection strip. Make sure that the protection strip reset button is reset. If that is ok, check the circuit breakers in the fuse box.

Above is the link to set the jumper on the 40GB to Slave.
Also, before it boots, try to get into the BIOS setting and make sure your compter can see both drives. If not, double check jumper settings for both drives. Turn off compter and change settings.

When computer can see both drives in BIOS, save it and let the compter continue to boot.

Hope this helps.

Remove the battery and try it on AC power only, if it boots up turn it back off and put the battery back in again and power it up again, if it boots up, the cause will have a small surge from the power strip caused by the thunder storm.
