Question about Zanussi TC7102W Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Hotpont/Zanussi Electric dryer TC7102W no timed heat

Unit is about 14 years old. Has been working fine. About 8 months ago the Timer heat stoped working. Would work for the first 5-10 minutes then quit. The "High" heat works fine. Have checked the exhaust ducting and that is all ok.

It seems thatyour getting no heat on the permanent press and gentle cycles correct? if we know the heater is working that takes care of a number of possible causes turn the power off and remove the rear panel of the dryer. you will see a couple of thermo disks mounted on the heater box.you probably will find tons of lint on these thermostats and what happens is you turn your dryer on low heat or automatic cycle where the dryer will run until it senses the clothes have no more humidity inside the drum every time the thermostat shuts off the heater the dial moves a little closer to the off position. if there is a build up of lint around these sensers the dryer will heat up until the sensers turn the heat off. what happens now is the thermostats are nice and warm as the lint buildup iacts like an insulator preventing the thermostat from calling for more heat so it will take forever to dry a load of clothes. brush the lint off the thermostats and while you are at it vacuum the back of the dryer there should be a lot of lint there

It is taking far too long to dry, this has only recently started? what could be the problem?

Does it get hot? If it does, then the problem is reduced air flow, caused by a lint filter that hasn't been cleaned, masses of fluff in the exhaust pipe (usually on bends), or the external vent not opening properly. Birds can also nest in the vent pipe if the vent isn't protected or is broken.

If it doesn't get hot, you need a new element. Some dryers have two elements if the dryer has a high and low setting. just one element can fail.

not likely the timer but it does control the heat circuit. suspect the fan-air flow is being blocked and the elements are cycling on a safety thermostat instead of the operating thermostat. check for blocked or restricted vent and plenty of air coming out the vent when running. check for a flapper on the vent not opening or only open part way.

Extremely low drum heat but setting is on HIGH.

Electric (Kenmore - 60931) dryer takes forever (several cycles) lately to dry clothes set on high heat (actual heat in tub feels low though). There are no obstructions in the venting and the 240 volt connection is fine. The timer rotates the dial (timer motor working). Help!!!

Maybe the fan is broken. Or clogged with lint.
