    CLARIFICATION::

    2) "" back-up hard drive to ex-(external?,extra?) hard drive""
    "" or defrag disc "" ??

quick answer:: When a hard drive " clunks " it is usually failing or going to fail. copy all the important files to CD or DVD disc and get a new h/d.

My Dell Windows 7 laptop won't boot?

Press the Delete key during start up, to enter its bios settings window. At boot sequence selection, select CD ROM as first boot device, Hard disc to second boot device, and deselect all other boot devices. Means, there should be only CD ROM and Hard disc as boot devices, as said above, in sequence. Select 'Save and reboot' at the bios option, the computer will restart with hard disc; provided there is no CD at CD ROM. Gopakumar Gopalan Google

Unlock windows vista

1 fix for this issue is to use the restore disc that came with the pc. If you don't have those and u have a vista disc you can use the Vista disc to install Vista and get the vista code off the Microsoft sticker on the pc. You can contact Microsoft for help as well they may have a way of unlocking it. Also if you are looking to upgrade the pc and u have a Vista install cd you could just put in a new hard drive and then install Vista on it. Hope this helps you. The other issue is there may be a BIOS Password if so then there is a whole new set of issues.

Pc not booting from cd

Hi ankushh91,

try a different Bootable disk and see if it will boot, also try you disc on a known good computer see if the disk you are using is bootable aswell to eliminate the cause of the issue.
When Booting from a disc make sure the disc is inserted in the dvd/cdrom drive once you turn the computer ON then you will see press anykey to boot to CD or disc if this shows just press any key this will boot to the Disc if it is Bootable it will show the message press anykey if the disc is not bootable it will only try and boot to the Hard drive directly.

I hope this can help,

M9500f gets into blackscreen at startup with blinking cursor at top left of screen. F11 (system recovery) don't work.

It is having issues booting from the hard drive, there could be a simple file corruption issue or a hard drive issue.
You will need to get hold of recovery discs or a windows disc to attempt to repair it.

Run hard drive tests and see if it is actually what is slowing your system. I doubt the HD is the issue.

A305 keeps rebooting

You could have a few different issues.

1. You have a driver issue. Try running windows repair from Microsoft install disk.
2. Possible power supply issue.
3. Bad hard drive. Possible bad sectors. Nothing to do here but replace hard drive.

Try disconnecting all hardware in system except hard drive and video card. This will include network cards and any other peripherals. Try to boot up.

Reformated used HP recovery disc when I restart it says SW build ID different from ID on recovery media

You have 2 options. You can write to Microsoft or to HP about your Issue & they might be able to help about the ID issue. Best I would suggest you buy the OS. ( Full installation Pack) this way you have nothing to worry.

I have a blue screen on my DELL Inspiron 6000 with message UNMOUTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

assuming you have a windows xp disc you would insert the xp disc and boot from the xp disc as though you are going to re install but when you get to the options select to go to recovery console / recovery mode and then use the following commands

fixboot
fixmbr

chkdsk /r

notice there is a space between chkdsk and the /r

the last command might take quite a while but should repair any issues.

Once done you should be able to boot back into windows - if not then it is an issue with your boot.ini file

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330184

If you have any problems let me know.

If chkdsk /r will not run or reports issues then your hard drive is most likely damaged and you will need to recover your data in which case make a bart pe disc :

http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

Go to the FAQ / help section and it should give you a guide on how to create the bart pe disc but it is fairly straight forward

you will need your xp disc the download ( provided on the downloads section of the above website ) which you install and run and it will create an iso or allow you to burn the outcome to a cd which you can then boot off of and should allow you to recover your data.

The other option is to attach the hard drive in your dell to another computer making sure the jumpers ( if its an IDE drive ) to slave mode and then you should be able to retrieve your data off of the drive that way.
