I will try putting in new brushes first.

  • doug166 Jan 24, 2009

The new noise could be something I've never heard before, as the brake has always worked (caused by bad brushes?), so I will try the brushes first, and if that doesn't do it I will go for the bearings.

Daah, after replacing the brushes(old ones were fine), i discovered the problem--The dadgum bolt that holds the blade tight was just loose enough to let the blade spin down when I released the trigger. Made it sound like a bearing was out. Easy repair---yeah.

what are you going to do about the bearing noise. I don't think that I would try and run it with a bearing that is seizing or collapsed because it will cause more damage. They are not that hard to replace and maybe where you buy your parts they will remove and press new ones on for you.

OK what do you need help with. The bearing noise is pretty easy if you have a bearing puller and a way to press it back on. Before I bought anything for the brake I would take a look at the brushes for wear and dirt in the area. Are you handy with tools if so I can help you with the disassembly of this unit. Let me know

You will have to check if it is a bearing going and the electric brake may not be getting any power to it now or it could be sticking.

The trigger may have simply failed. Usually failure occurs at the least convenient time or circumstance.

Not a good idea. Miter saw are too dangerous to be altering them in any way.

How do u remove the blade on a chop saw ls1013

Be sure the saw is switched off and unplugged. Use the Makita socket wrench on the side of the saw base if you still have it. If not make sure you use a socket or wrench that fits the bolts properly so you get them off and back on without damaging them. Lock the handle in the up position with the stopper pin. Loosen the hex bolt holding the center cover in place, this will let you raise the guard and center cover so you can get at the blade bolt. There is a button on the back side of the blade guard that locks the spindle. Push and hold the button in and turn the blade until it locks in place. Using the socket wrench, turn the blade bolt clockwise or in the same direction the blade turns while cutting to remove it, the outer flange and blade. Put the new blade on (check that the direction of the arrow on the blade is the same as on the guard), the outer flange and blade bolt. Use the spindle lock to get the bolt on tight. Return the center cover to it's original position and tighten it's hex bolt. Turn the blade by hand to make sure the spindle lock released then pull the stopper pin and make sure the blade guard works properly.

You will need to lock, the spindle, and use a puller, and maybe even heat to get it apart depending on how worn damage etc?
below is a wiki for another type but may help?

Makita LS1011- when power is turned off there is a rumbling noise coming out of the saw. I've taken it apart and can't find any broken parts. I suspect worn gears? Anyone have this problem?

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me, sorry for not making it clear but it was a 2 part question. I have a LS1011N and assumed it would have an electric blade brake like mine. When the bearings are bad it doesn't take long to also wear out the brushes so the electric brake not working full time is a symptom of that failure. Since yours doesn't have a brake then you are right in half of your guess of the gears the other half would be bearings. The only way I know to tell with the thing still assembled is to hold a screwdriver to the rear of the motor case and put your ear on the handle and run the saw and listen for the sand like sound of a bad bearing. If you don't hear anything like that it has to be worn gears and for that you have to look. Good Luck, this should Fixya!

Makita LS1013 miter saw motor runs very slowly

Could be a bearing problem. If the bearings are dry and seizing up they will hinder the motor speed. Alternatively, if they are worn and allowing lateral movement in the motor the armature will rub against the field windings when it all magnatizes (sp?). I would investigate bearings before electrics. Hope this helps, good luck.
