Question about Maytag MDB6650A Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Dishwasher spray arm.

You helped answer a question for me last night. Unfortunatly, I came across a new issue. I tried to run a wash cycle last night to verify for sure that the spray arm wasn't spinning. I tried this several times and noticed water was leaking out of the bottom, just above the motor.

So this evening I took apaort the lower spray arm assembly all the wat down to the motor shaft and seal. I slowly poured water in to see where the leak was and best I can tell it is comming through the motor shaft seal.

Was I supposed to lubricate this or put some type of adhesive down when re-assembling? Not sure how the connection works since the impeller bottom is metal and the seal top a hard rubber or plastic. Does force create the seal between these surfaces?

I aprpeciate the help.

There is no lubricant or adhesive that you need to put down. However if you removed that seal around the motor shaft you will need to replace it with a new one. Once that seal is broken it won't sit right again. When you buy a new dishwasher motor or heater it comes with that seal new cause it won't go back on again right. Dishwashers are a real pain to work on, they have so many little parts and so many picky parts that it just makes them a pain to work with. What ever you do just never buy yourself a Bosh. The way they built those, they can only be worked on by taking the entire machine apart to the floor. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm here to help.

It sounds like your motor is stuck in the reverse position. It could also be in your timer. I would suggest calling a qualified technician for the one. Just because the parts are pricey and depending on how much a new dishwasher cost. Atleast get a diagnosis so you can know if its worth fixing or buying a new one. 1. Check the water temperature. Should be 125 to 140 F.
  2. Check pump re-circulation., Listen, see if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.
  3. Check water level when the fill cycle has completed. Should be just under the heating element. If not, possibly need to replace the water inlet valve.
  4. Check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks.
  5. Check to make sure dishwasher is draining after each cycle. There should only be a little water in the bottom of the tub.
  6. Make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.
  7. Possibly try a different detergent. Some liquid-gels will bubble and a pump cannot pump bubbles.
Scrape away large pieces of food, bones, pits, toothpicks, etc. Burned on food should be loosened before loading. Empty liquids from glasses and cups. Foods such as mustard, mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice and tomato products may cause discoloration of stainless steel and plastics if allowed to sit for a long period of time. Unless the dishwasher is to be operated at once, it is best to rinse off these food soils. Load racks so that large items do not prevent the detergent dispenser from opening. If the dishwasher drains into a food disposer, be sure disposer is completely empty before starting the dishwasher.

Smeg DI 409CA Dishwasher - Doesn't wash properly, tablet doesn't desolve and cycle lasted all night

Hi,

The first thing is have a look at the instruction manual from HERE

If the dishwasher is not washing properly then please follow these steps:
As you said that the water builds up at the bottom see If it comes out 'foamy' then liquid dish soap is getting introduced into the dishwasher. Liquid dish soap is different than automatic dishwasher detergent. liquid dish soap needs to be COMPLETELY rinsed from anything that has been pre-soaked prior to putting in the dishwasher. after a couple of regular cycles the foam will go away. Nowadays liquid dish soap is also 'concentrated' or 'ultra concentrated' which doesn't help.

If further this does not solve your problem the the only solution is to get it repaired.

Goodluck..

Give the spray arm a spin to make sure it rotates. It should spin freely. If not, remove plastic spray arm clip, flip it over, replace it, and try again. Make sure holes in the spray arm are clear of debris. Spray arm must be clean for it to spin. If spray arm does spin freely, remove spray arm clip, spray arm and the post assy (the thing the spray arm attaches to). Try your WikiFix again. This time add baking soda to the hole the post assy came from. Top it off with white vinegar. Leave it overnight. In the morning, stick your finger down the hole where the spray arm assy sat. You should feel a plastic thing. This is a propeller attached to the recirculation pump. You need to free it up. Get that thing moving with your pinky or a chopstick or whatever. Try the machine without the spray arm. You should get water blasting up from the hole. Reassemble the spray arm.
