Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G not connected to internet.
Hi, I have installed the above. Both wireless computers are connected to the router but the router cannot connect to the internet. The cable modem works when I connect computer to it via wire. the problem is the communication between the modem and the router. Yes, the wire is connected. All of the items involved have been reset, rebooted, etc. The router sofware installed easily.

Are you trying to setup Linksys router? You can run the installation CD to setup Linksys router or you can do it without installation CD also. Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router. Change the Internet connection settings. Create a new wireless network. Connect to the network.
Based on your post description, I am assuming that: 1. You can connect to the Internet through your 2241 Neptoia modem; 2. You can access your WRT54G V8 Linksys Wireless router @ 192.168.1.1; 3. Both 1 & 2 above could be done through a wireless connection from your PC.
Connect everything as they are supposed to be wired (printer, Print Server, modem, router etc)
Pls try: a. Connect the Linksys wireless print server using a lan cable to the Linksys WRT54G Wireless AP/router. (Will tackle the wireless connection a bit later) b. Reset your print server; & c. Do a diagnostic print-out. Instructions for b & c are in page 4 of your manual.
You need to verify that: i. the Power indicator is contnously green ii. the Ethernet indicator is contnously green iii. the USB indicator is contnously green iv. the Wireless indicator may or may not be contnously green
Pls post back with the generated diagnostic print-out before we can proceed with the other steps.
Additionally, try installing the Epson Stylus Photo RX600 direct to one of the USB ports of your PC. Use the installer/driver CD that came with it. Try using it as a regular printer. This will tell us status of the printer.
You need to configure your router with below method. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. Then set WAN settings as internet service provider settings enable DHCP. .Click on wireless and enabled it. Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
Hi, IF you are able to connect your wireless device? Did you checked that are you able to ping the wireless router? Are you able to ping any of public dns fr.ex. 220.127.116.11? And above both is working try to check the DNS which you entered?? if above are not possible then again check the setting with your wireless router?
1)Connect lan cable on any of the port in router and connect your pc? And check whether your pc is getting automatic ip and check what is the gateway defined there??And just put that ip(if default it will be 192.168.1.1) in your internet explorer and access your router. 2) If even connecting your pc its not getting any ip then reset you wireless router and login using internet explore 192.168.1.1 ip?
You net to get into router settings options (try going to http://192.168.1.1) from internet explorer. and there you need to get to boradband settings and enable security (you will be asked to choose a password- key)
Other than the laptop and the LinkSys WRT54G, you would need an active account/subscription with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) who then will provide you with a modem of sort.
On initial setup, connect your modem to your laptop and verify that you can connect to the Internet. Thereafter run the CD installer that came with the LinkSys before connecting/powering the LinkSys. Follow on screen instruction. At one point in the installation, you would be asked to disconnect the modem, connect the router and connect the modem to the router.
Should for some reason the above instruction will not address your concern, pls post back.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
No it's not needed, the main things you need to know is the IP address that the router is set to and it's login details which hopefully your friend can give you. (default IP: 192.168.1.1, default login and password: admin and admin)
After that, as long as your HS Internet modem has an ethernet port you would connect that to the Linksys and your PC's to the routers LAN ports. You can then also login to the router and setup the wireless part if you have any wireless devices to use with it.
