After market parts and accessories rarely live up to the performance and durability of the name brand ones. You pay more upfront, but you don't have to buy replacements down the road. Sorry but it sounds like your out of luck. Buy it from Nintendo next time.
I don't believe you can change to directional pad layout. Try plugging the nunchuk into the remote.
With this setup, you use the stick on the nunchuk to control direction. The direction pad and buttons then change to suit this type of controller setup.
Hi there, the nunchuck is actually a separate controller that is needed. It is plugged into the end of the standard Wii remote with a cable. The nunchuck does not require batteries so I am guessing you are getting confused between the nunchuck and the Wiimote. Please look at this photo to see what I mean about a nunchuck.
