Check to be sure that when you plugged the monitor into the computer that no pins in the monitor side of the cable are bent .. some may be missing (that is not unusual) but none bent.

Be sure that it is in properly ..

It is possible that is is bad .. but be sure to shut all items off .. screen, computer etc.

Turn on screen
Boot up PC

Text does not come through all the way

It wouldn't by chance be going to sleep or hibernating to save power would it? If so check your Power Option in the Control Panel.

If the desktop is going black after it boots up all the way then try another monitor because it could be your monitor or the video card inside the computer.

Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays without the problem you are having then the video card inside the computer is good, but your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor display fades away to black like your original monitor then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Video mode not supported..how do I get it off of that?

This means you've selected a screen resolution that your monitor is not able to display. Power cycle the computer, and immediately start pressing F8 repeatedly until it brings you to a white text on black menu, select "Enable VGA Mode" and the computer will start up in a very low resolution. You can then go into your display properties and adjust the resolution to a higher resolution that your monitor does support. Review the monitor user's guide to determine the supported screen resolutions.

I have an AOC 917sw Monitor. I turned on my computer. The monitor lights up and goes black while it's booting up, then stays black. I think a light burned out in the monitor. I just read where someone...

TRY TAKING THE RAM MODULE(S) OUT AND RE-SEATING THEM ONE AT A TIME IN DIFFERENT ORDERS (E.G. ONE THEN TRY TO BOOT...REMOVE THEN TRY THE OTHER AND TRY TO BOOT...THEN ALL AND TRY TO BOOT). SOMETIMES A BAD OR IMPROPERLY SEATED RAM MOD CAN CAUSE THIS BEHAVIOR.
GOOD LUCK

How do i stop my monitor auto configurating? I have a AOC LM500 monitor and every 5 seconds the screen goes black the it auto configures... i dont know how to stop it

Your auto-configuring settings are located on your monitors settings. Depending on the monitor, there should be a settings button somewhere on the monitor itself. In the settings there will be an option to change the monitor to your settings or "auto configuring". You'll know what to do from here.

I hope this helped.

try to check with the monitor selftest if the monitor self test passes, the issue is with the video card. to check your video card: try to connect the monitor to integrated port and check out so that we could find if the problem is with the video card.

LCD is shot. It can be repaired for about $50.00. Shop around local TV/Monitor repair shops.

I need to reduce the fonts in word processor

With the graphic capability of computers and printers today, there are many fonts to choose from when writing documents.
  • Important category that fonts can be divided into are:
    • Monospaced fonts: Monospaced fonts are fonts in which every character uses the same amount of horizontal space, like this sentence.
    • Proportionally spaced fonts: Proportionally spaced fonts (also called variable pitch fonts) use up only the amount of horizontal space that is required for the letter. Therefore, the letter W would take up more space than the letterI. Standard HTML text font, like this sentence (bad example for those unfortunate lynx users :-), is an example of this kind.
Using these kinds of fonts requires formatting to be done correctly. Aligning text should never be done by using spaces. Since character width varies with proportional fonts, assume that it will never line up correctly using spaces. It is possible that on the screen it looks perfect, but remember that the resolution a monitor provides is not even close to the quality that a laser printer can produce. Even if monospaced fonts are used, spaces should be avoided in the event that the font is changed to a proportional font later. Instead of using spaces, use tab stops, indentation markers, and other features to align text.
  • Fonts can also be divided into:
    • Scaleable: Scaleable fonts, such as the popular TrueType fonts, are rendered by applying a fancy mathematical algorithm to represent each character. This allows the fonts to be used at any point size with uniform quality. These fonts are actually printed as graphics and therefore can be printed on any printer that can support graphics.
    • Printer: Printer fonts are the default fonts that come already installed with the printer.
    • Soft: Other fonts can be used by downloading soft fonts.
If there is the possibility that fonts used in the document are not going to be available on another printer, techniques such as embedding or substituting can be used.
