I have an intel D865GVHZ mobo with integrated graphics, running xp pro. I just installed an emachines 17" monitor and everything is wide and short. I cannot change this when adjusting settings to largest, still wide and short. How do I adjust screen to display proper proportions?

I ran a scan that I downloaded free, then read results that showed driver that I needed, then I googled it, downloaded it free and solved the problem.

i have read some reviews on your monitor
So the ex-hubby calls me with his woes - his eMachines T3124 is having problems. Seems that when he cold boots in the morning it hits the "E" splash screen and then just goes to black screen. No bios boot screen, no boot to windows. Everything sounds ok though. After a few restarts it boots ok. So, first trouble shoot is to replace the 180w Bestec power supply with a salvaged 300w Hippro from my T6420 (which was replaced with a 500w) - the one I replaced the mobo on. Works great ... for one night. Next morning I get the frantic call - now he gets nothing after the "E" splash but white wavy lines, but the computer sounds like it's running fine. Ok - ok ... think, think. First thought was maybe the onboard graphics have gone, next thought maybe the mobo is going ....

What is the next thing we do after trying a known, good power supply? Try another working montior. I had him try using a trusty older CRT monitor and Wha-Lah! After less than 3 years the E17T4 LCD monitor had failed. Most recent crisis handled. This little incident has made him realize though that he needs to burn all his picture and videos to CD. Scared him to think he could have lost them. Today's reminder? BURN your pictures and videos now! You never known when something might happen. And eMachines monitors are ****.

hope this helps

Have owned a iiyama 17" pro crt for a few years,

These were a fine monitor and with the kind of image quality you cannot get on TFT's.
If you know the graphics card you are using is working ok, have checked the VGA cable connection and socket at the monitor and computer and have tested the monitor on another computer, that would rule out any problems as far as connected devices are concerned.

The problem you describe, and it is unusual that it has happened so quickly, points to a failure of the monitor internal board. You may be able to get this repaired at a reasonable cost by seeking the opinion of a TV repairman, who might be able to fix it.

New 17" monitor, display is wide and short, not proper proportion

The monitor should have came with an installation or drivers cd. Use this disc to install the monitor specific drivers for your operating system. If you do not have the cd then you should be able to download them from the support section of your monitor manufacturers website. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

New wide screen monitor incompatibility issues with older comp

The two cards(Gforce Nvidia card) might not be compatible for your motherboard because they're for heavy graphics like playing games, and *********** board is old that you;ve mentioned. including the message memory range unavailable. Try using your old card with the new monitor.

Weird blink problem...

That's definitely a hardware (incompatiblity) problem. Download the most updated driver for the graphics card. Also see if there is a monitor driver for the monitor.

I understand it worked seamlessly for the emachine but you should switch it back for a day or two to rule out the monitor just screwing up.

Sound

Please be a bit more specific, for example:

Do you have the drivers installed for the sound?

Does it give you an Error when you try to play music?

Are you using a sound card or are you using the sound port integrated on the mobo?

What is the make and model of either the sound card or the mobo?

Let me know so that I can further assist you,
-Daniel.
