Checked modems in control panel and says it is working properly. Plugged into my laptop and was able to get online. I get a dial tone when plugged into home phone. When the phone cable is plugged into my PC all our house phones are dead. What gives?

Still says service profile is damaged. Re-install the service provider. Guess I will have to find a PC doctor.

This is a 'no dial tone' error **** can be caused by damage to software too. Hopefully you have had Restore turned on.
If you can't get to the desktop at all, try tapping F5 or F8 and look for a boot menu; choose 'Safe Mode' which will install only very little of Windows in case part of it is sick.
After you have a Desktop (either, normal or Safe), click on Start, then Run.
Type the following in the Run window:
rstrui.exe
Click 'OK'
This should open (if the Restore program isn't impacted) a simple menu with only two choices;
- Restore my computer to an earlier time.     (default)  - Create a restore point.
Click 'Next' button.
This should bring up a current month calendar with 'grayed' and bold dates shown. Choose a date far enough back before your system went stupid.
Unless you are infected (I hope you have plenty of A/V and malware protection) this should return you to operation.
If it doesn't, grab a friend who understands how to scan your machine for problems caused by others.

Error 680 meals no dail tone!,
1. is the phone cable modem plug into the modem port and the phone jack.
2. do you have a dial tone, when you pick up the receiver.
If you heard a dial tone, is it continuous?
3. are you using DSL Modem? or broadband connection?
If you have another cable available, try it. A bad cable could be the problem.

Next, check the modem. Is it turned on? When you try to dial out, are the lights blinking? If they’re not, the modem might be damaged. If it’s possible, attach another modem to see if that solves the problem.

Emachines T4010 won't start up, says image checksum, and that an image is corrupted

Receiving a bad image checksum error message when upgrading a computer to Windows XP means that a Windows system file such as user32.dll is damaged. This error occurs when any damaged system file is encountered that isn't overwritten during Setup. The repair process for this error involves voiding the damaged dynamic link library file from the DOS command line prompt and replacing it with a new copy from the Windows XP disk.

Insert a clean Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (ME) or Microsoft Windows 98 Edition startup disk into the computer, and hold the reset button on the front of the computer until the system commences rebooting. Navigate the Windows startup menu with the keyboard's directional keys and select 'Start Computer with CD-ROM Support'. Hit "Enter" to continue. Write down your CD-ROM's drive letter on a piece of paper. At the command prompt, type "Drive:" without quotes (Drive should be replaced with the drive letter on which Windows is installed), and press "Enter." Type "cd windows\system32" without quotes, and press "Enter." Type "ren user32.dll user32.old" without quotes and again press "Enter." This renames your damaged user32.dll file so it is not recognized by the system, but still physically exists as a backup if needed in the future. Eject the Windows ME or 98 disk, and insert the Windows XP disk. At the command prompt, type "extract CDROMDrive:\i386\user32.dl_ Drive:\windows\system32\user32.dll" without quotes, replacing CDROMDrive with the CD-ROM's drive letter that you made a note of earlier, and replacing Drive with the system's drive letter on which Windows is installed. Hit "Enter" to execute the command. This process extracts a new copy of the user32.dll file to your hard disk, from the Windows XP CD. The new file will be found in the Windows/System32 directory. Restart the system by holding the reset button on the front of the tower until reboot commences.

Installation windows xp emachine t5082

You must find "eMachine" XP USB drivers for your computer.
If all USB support is "enabled" in BIOS, the conflict is with drivers.
XP is loaded with many generic drivers, however eMachines is proprietary and requires eMachine drivers for most on-board hardware.

Contact eMachines support to locate the drivers (if available).

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!

No Audio Output Device Installed

Hi

To immediately fix these errors in Vista, start the Windows Audio service as follows:
  1. Click Start c00834869.gif , and enter services.msc into the Start Search field.
  2. From the list of services, right-click Windows Audio and select Start . Figure 23: Starting the Windows Audio service c00847914.gif
  3. The message should no longer open. If the message opens again after the computer is restarted, repeat these steps, select Properties for Windows Audio and set Startup Type to Automatic.
If you have XP on the computer, then click Start-->Run and then type "services.msc" in the Run window and then click OK and once you get the Windows Services screen, follow the above steps.
If this doesnt work and the sound card is not onboard or integrated, then reseat the sound card preferably into a different slot and repeat the above steps.
