Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

My 14 yr old Magic Chef Model DU4K seems to be leaking (it is dripping into the basement just under where the dishwasher is located). it started when the arm at the bottom of the dishwasher did not seem to be moving so my husband took off the bottom "grill" to see if maybe there was something under there preventing it from spinning. It started to leak when he put it all back together (the bottom arm is still not spinning)

we went to the Magic Chef website and looked at all the parts and how they are put together. From this he determined that he had put the strainer grill on the wrong way and that is what caused the leaking. As to the arm not turning we also got the answer from their website. It seems that the seal had dislodged so it was stopping the arm from spinning. He repositioned the seal, put everything back on (the correct way this time) and the arm is spinning, and there is no more leaking.

Being 14 years old I dought if spares are still available for this machine personally at 14 I would rather replace the unit if you are not in a possition to replace it you could advise from your local appliance repairs as to weather parts are available and what the cost is of parts for the unit before you decide to possible throw good money after bad (spend money on something that has very possibly seen the end of its life)sorry for the bleek outlook but reality is that old machines such as this seldom are worth repairing.

PUMP WILL NOT STOP WHEN YOU PUT POWER ON . PUMP STARTS AS SOON AS YOU PUT THE POWER ON TO PICK A WASH PROGRAM EVEN BEFORE THE DOOR HAS BEEN CLOSED.

I have seen this on my unit. There was water in the drip pan under the dishwasher. Water in the drip pan comes from a leak. In my case, the water valve was getting so old that it was letting too much water into the unit when it was trying to fill. This cause the filling station to over flow into the drip pan.
A quick fix - I removed the water from the drip pan under the unit and I was able to turn down on the supply valve in the basement to limit how much water could come in. This allowed the unit to run without overflowing. I will replace the water valve soon.

Other possibilities, the float device used to detect too much water in the drip pan or too much water in the unit is stuck in the too full position. Or the pump out pump is stuck and not moving water.

Magic Chef DISHWASHER - mODEL du4k, STOPPED DURING drain cycle

I am assuming that the pump motor is bad, and since the unit is at least 15 years old (just guessing), we decided to wash the dishes by hand till after the holidays!!
