I don't have hp director on my Windows Vista PC. I miss it. What can I do?

Go to HP.com and install the latest driver for your printer the check the following: HP introduced HP Solution Center to replace HP Director in 2004. While HP continues to support HP Director on products used in Windows XP and 2000 operating systems, HP Director is not compatible with Windows Vista. If you recently upgraded to Windows Vista, you will not be able to use HP Director. However, you might be able to upgrade to HP Solution Center in its place. Follow these steps to download and install the full software solution, which includes HP Solution Center. NOTE: This solution is not available for all products.

Its also known as .net framework. Its a software which few applications use for support like chat applications. Below is the system requirement for .net framework to work properly If your system does not fall under the category then you shall uninstall it.

It seems that you can not download the HD director however they have released another one to take it's place. The download is 244 MB. Here's a link, you can read the entire chat with HP support which also has the download link & instructions. vista have scanning program already installed.
choose start->all program "Windows Fax and Scanning"
This feature works only with Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Business, and Windows Vista Enterprise.

Your disks I don't think will help, looks like it is case of Not fully vista compatable, there are also issues relating to your old HP Director software ie...

"In October 2006, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7. The HP Director software that shipped with some HP products introduced between 2002 and 2004 may not be compatible with Internet Explorer 7. The HP Solution Center software, which replaced HP Director software, does not exhibit this issue with Internet Explorer 7."
