Question about Dryers

Dryer warm but not hot, long dry times

Hi,
Our dryer gets warm but not hot and it seems to take double the time to dry things. The outside vent seems like it is blowing ok and the air coming out is warm. My wife says she thinks the top surface of the dryer used to be hotter than it is now.
Thank you.

Thanks, John. How can I tell if an element is out?

  • filters Jan 23, 2009

I think it seems to blowing pretty well from the outside vent so I don't guess the line is clogged. Can I take the cover off the dryer and somehow check to see if an element is out?
    Thanks.

Some times there are multiple heating elements in there and if one is out it does not get as hot. another simpler place to start would be to make sure your line is clear of debries all the way from dryer to out doors. this is a good idea any way since lint build up can cause the occasional house fire.

there should be a noticable difference in the temperature of you clothing when your heat should be at is highest. try putting a load in and run for ten minutes or so then open it up if your clothes are not hot to the touch that is probably your problem or your single element is now weak. but do not rule out a some what cloged line.

sorry got busy last night. I would recomend only a profesional service these things since there are lots of different ways to go about it. and make sure it is unplugged before you attempt to open it up. there is substantial power in there.

CLOTHES WONT DRY. IT GETS REALLY HOT INSIDE. THEY SEEM WETTER AFTER IT RUNS FOR AWHILE. TAKES PROLLY 3 HRS TO DRY.

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Dryer is hot when opened, but takes 3 or 4 timed cycles to get clothes dry on very dry setting and timed setting

Check for a restriction in exhaust system, not just behind unit but all the way to outside vent, should feel warm decent airflow at outside vent.If not all you will end up with is warm moist clothes,You need good airflow to take away the moisture in the clothes not just heat. This issue can happen slowly over time and next thing you know its taking two or three times longer to dry even though when you open the door its hot inside.
Good luck

Maytag performa gas dryer appliance gets hot but have to cycle clothes 2 times to get dry, have vacuumed out lint trap and exit vent any ideas thanks.

Hi, it sounds like you have covered most bases. One other thing I would check is total airflow. Outside, where the dryer exhaust leaves the building it should be unobstructed, If there is a flap or louvers they should open freely. You should be able to feel the warm air when you put your hand at the vent. If aiflow is good, the thermostat may be defective.

DRYER TAKES LONGER TO DRY

you could have restricted airflow from the lint screen not being cleaned, a bad blower wheel, or a bad thermostat. take the vent hose off the back and check to see if the air flows out the dryer with good force, if so your vent is probably clogged or not open in the wall. the vent hose may also be picned off from puching the dryer back to far.

Our model medt5870tw0 maytag dryer does not dry properly

First , remove the vent hose from the dryer to see if good air flow is coming out the dryer vent . If not , could have a bad blower wheel . If so , then check the vent hose AND vent to outside to see if blocked . A dryer will either heat or not heat . Since your dryer heats , try drying a load without the vent hose connected to the dryer and see if it heats fine (telling you , a vent problem is apparent . Sometimes a dryer is pushed too far back , kinking the vent hose also .

Dryer does not get hot enough to dry clothes Roper REX4634KQ1 Electric Dryer

The vent may be stopped up, or the vent hose crimped so the air cannot escape, you can check the air flow at the vent on the outside of the house while the dryer is running.
try cleaning the vent and the lint screen with a vacuum cleaner, you may need to replace the vent hose, this should solve the problem

Dryer takes a long time to dry.

This sounds like the vent is plugged up. The dryer gets rid of moisture through the dryer vent and hose. When this gets plugged up it will take a long time to dry or the hi limit will shut it off. When the dryer vent or hose is partialy blocked it will take vary tong times to dry the clothes and will eventualy cause the dryer to stop drying all together.

When vented outside the clothes take 3 times the length of time to dry - how come? The vent is not plugged.

are you sure not plugged? look behind dryer is vent hose flattened to verify remove hose from dryer and try a load may get warm and some lint but this will resolve vent issue ..also if that is ge electric dryer element is double strung and 1 string may be burned out
