I have the same problem. I tried all the steps listed short of buying anything. I even took it apart and cleaned the charging wires. Didnt fix it. Anything else to try?

I have the same problem. I tried everything listed, nothing worked. I even took the unit apart and tried cleaning the charge wires. Anything else to try? I used to be electronics/copier tech, this unit works like the main charging wire on any copy machine. They arent too complicated.

same problem with the "red"light!! Tried holding down the start button, but as red light comes on a few seconds later. I tought I was the only one with this problem and was about to buy a new one.... forget about it!

  • Jelenek May 07, 2008

I have the Ionic Pro CA 200 Air Purifier and am having the same issues with the blue switching to red immediately after turning on. I have tried holding down the on button and it doesn't make any difference. I have cleaned the blades, check to make sure that the opening cover was in all the way and have moved the "cleaner wand" up and down. It almost sounds as if this is a problem with the machine. I have only had mine for a couple of months.

  • Anonymous Jul 20, 2008

I have the same problem with the red light. I've been researching for the past hour, however, it appears like the company is out of business.

The machine is now part of a land fill elsewhere. Do to the company's attitude and refusal to help figure out what was wrong, they will not get another dime of my money. It seems that - when I tested - several of the components were zapped. I found at least one z diode out on the power supply end. I was not about to start fooling with the flyback xmfr. What amounted to the chrona wires tested fine. It is a neat idea but the company is worthless as far as customer relations. The "service" person could barely speak English (Engrish). They did not know a transistor from a fuse! I will recommend this product TO NO ONE. Ionic Pro - are you listening??? A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER!!!

I have the EXACT same problem with the red light!!! I always regularly cleaned the blades and the wires, but one day the red cleaning light went on and never turned off. I tried holding the power button and just like everyone else, the blue light comes on for a second, and then the red light goes back on. I emailed the company and have not gotten a response. Anyone got a response from them? If so, I would love to know how to fix it. This thing aint cheap!!!

Here is the link to the user manual if you need it; http://www.ionic-pro.tv/pics/ip_manual.pdf Check page 9 of the pdf file - "unit may need resetting - press the on button to reset" - I guess you have probably tried this, so try pressing and holding it in for a while. Have you cleaned the ionizing wires? (page 8 of the pdf) - and check they are fully inserted. Take the blades out, and re-insert them again, making sure they are properly seated. If none of this helps (reset after trying each thing), then there may be a fault with the blades that could be possibly solved by getting a new set, depending on the price being worth it; http://www.gppay.com/process.php?site=ionic-pro&td=tv&action=order_form&l=english If none of that helps, then I think the control circuit is probably fried - if they will send you a replacement (unlikely, but ask them really firmly), this is almost certainly a very simple job, so please ask again if you need a hand. Hope this helps :)

I find that if I clean, not just the removable blades, but also take a lint-free dusting cloth and clean around the wire and the vents, that it will work again.

This is a common problem and if it's still under 1 year warranty, contact Ionic Pro at 800-875-8577 for a replacement that will cost you $20 for shipping to/from.
The high-voltage supply has died and cannot be repaired by the average repair person as parts just are not available.
When they get these back, they go into the trash and send you a new one.

Red light stays on continually.

Same problem : after cleaning thoroughly inside by removing the Front & Rear Plastic grid and the stainless blades, I also cleaned the 2 wires (very softly and carrefully, not to break them), but the Red light goes on after only few minutes :

Here is my last Solution :
1 - Turn on (Low position) although the Red ligt is on
2 - Release the Rear plastic Grid (or Front plastic grid, or both of them) : That stop the unit automatically
3 - Replace it and make sur it's well locked : the unit turns on automatically.

After that, my unit works well, no mor Red light.

But my husband will see if he can by pass the Cleaning detector, so we will not have this stupid Red light on anymore !

Good luck.

"clean" light

Sharper Image was giving customers a small rebate for the product since it was proven to be ineffective for cleaning the air by Consumer Reports as well data by the EPA.

This has caused a mess for Sharper Image that they went into bankruptcy as a result of it. The Consumer Products Safety Commission is going to be making a decision on ionizers at the end of year since there are hazards in the air from using the devices. It could be that ionizers are no longer sold in the US next year.

The industry should have been regulated and unfortunately the government never did anything about it until Sharper Image and Consumer Reports went to court on it.

Red Cleaning Light is On

I have the same problem. I totally took the unit apart and cleaned it out. After I reasembled it, the same thing. Just that little cleaning overdue light on. I can tell that it is not working as well as there is no breeze coming from the front. That is what I get for buying a serviced unit.

Problem

"A blinking light indicates when the blades should be wiped clean with a damp cloth." I actually had a "handyman" contract last year to visit an elderly gentleman once a month and clean all 9 of his Ionic Breeze GP air purifiers. Before I did that for him, they would make hissing noises and he really didn't like that. Here's how to clean the operative compnents of these machines: First, unplug the machine and place on a work surface, such as a table or kitchen counter. Second, remove the metal blade insert from the top by gripping the release tab and lifting it up and out. Also remove the front and back grilles by pressing on the plastic tab at the bottom and lifting up on them. Third, use a damp rag or paper towel to wipe the three metal blades clean. Do not immerse this assembly in water, because it has to be completely dry when re-installing it in the machine. Fourth, use a small piece of damp paper towel to VERY GENTLY wipe clean the two thin wires inside the unit. These are located behind the two rubbery flat blades just inside the unit and can be accessed from the front side. You won't damage these rubbery flat blades by pushing your hand gently between them, but be VERY CAREFUL when wiping the wires clean. (This step is important, as the wires must be clean.) Fifth, using another bit of damp paper towel, carefully clean the wire attached to the inside of the front grille. Dry this off with a dry bit of paper towel, then clean any accumulated dirt off the front & back grilles. Check the metal contact near the bottom of the front grille (attached to the wire) to verify that it's clean and will make good electrical contact. Sixth, pick the unit up and turn it upside-down & right-side up about 6 to 8 times. The two wires inside have plastic beads on them that slide up and down the wires. This brushes any bits of leftover dust or lint off of the wires. (Again, these wires must be VERY clean.) Seventh, replace the front and back plastic grilles by placing them in their slots and sliding them down to snap into place. Verify that the assembly with the three metal blades is COMPLETELY dry, using a hair dryer if necessary to dry off damp areas, then slide it back into place from the top of the machine. Now the cleaning process is done, so plug the unit in and turn it on to test operation. If it makes ANY noise, then some component is not completely cleaned off, or still has a presence of moisture, which must be completely dried off before the machine is ready for operation. Hope this helps! ;)
