Hello! The M085435 has an automatic height adjustment. The vacuum will adjust to the carpet height without you having to do anything. Hope this helps!

Heighth adjustment

Orecks do not have any height adjustments. If you have high pile carpet and an older model Oreck, you can purchase a high pile attachment and install that on your Oreck.

Height adjustment not working

Manual says to tilt the vacuum back so the front wheels are off the ground (unit turned off of course) and make the adjustment. May take some back-and-forth force, but should adjust. If not, then something is jamming the switch.

How do you adjust a self adjusting vacuum. It's too hard to push because it's too low

honestly you cant adjust it. There is nothing you can do to it to make it adjustable either.

What I feel is the actual problem is maybe your belt is slipping on the brush roller and not making it easy to push anymore. a belt should be changed once per year, or if you are a pet lover, 2 times a year.

let me know how this works for you.
Good luck.

Height adjustment not adjusting

The height adjustment wont engage unless the handle is in the down position. Not knowing this led me to overturn the hight adjustment knob.

Step on the handle release, pull the handle back and lay the vac on its side. Then you can get the knob and the plate back together again.

BTW, the reason I had this problem is because the front brush slows dramatically when using on carpet, I thought it was set too low, and turned the knob (in a manly fashion, putting it past its limit). Still working on that one. After inspecting the belt, looks like one worn and cracked spot gumming up the works.

Slef propell is not working correct

The transmission may be out of adjustment.Remove the top cover exposing the pivot handle assembly. On top of the pivot handle assembly, you should clearly see the adjustment screw along with the adjustment spring.Once the adjustment screw is loosened, the spring should automatically adjust the pivot handle to the factory setting.Just make sure the screw is tight

Problem with wheels

If the belt is over a year old, it should be replaced. This is normal maintenance and is often overlooked. When the handle is in the upright position, it will appear the the height adjustment is not working. What's actually happening is that the height adjust is easily moved so you can make any adjustment you want. When the handle is pulled back, the front of the machine will lower to that setting and lock, so it will not adjust itself while you are vacuuming. If you wish to change the setting, you have to return the handle to the upright position, or you can lift the front of the machine with your hand, taking the weight of the machine off the wheels and this will allow you to slide the adjustment to another position. It is possible that the adjustment mechanism has come apart. It is comprised of three separate components. It would be very difficult to explain it here and should be addressed by someone familiar with this model.

Carpet Height Adjusment

In addition to the tab that contacts the bottom of the slider, there are 2 protusions on the adjustable wheel plate that move through holes in the housing, but only when the handle is tilted to begin vacuuming. The wheel plate has a spring that forces the tab against the slider. As the handle is moved to the upright position, the protusions move back through the holes, taking the tab away from the slider and the wheel plate locks in its highest position. Therefore, the position of the slider has no effect while the handle is upright and locked. Hope this helps.
