Copies have several dirty streaks across the pages
Copies have horizontal dirty streaks, more dense in the middle than at the edges. Also, there is a thin vertical stripe down the middle of the page.
I assume this might be a problem with the toner cartridge (which I assume includes the drum), but I don't want to spend $160 on a new cartridge and discover that was not the problem! I have run the drum cleaning procedure. The problem is not the ADF; it occurs even when copying a plain sheet of paper on the glass.
This unit is used at home, and not all that frequently; the cartridge has been in the copier for about 3 years and is probably about halfway through its estimated 5000-copy capacity.

The drum roller is damaged. You must be careful and spin the cylinder. do not touch the roller. You probably have a line in the roller that causes this issue. Each time i have seen this problem, this was the cause.
It probably has several issues - optics dirty, and drum, and blade failing. I would also imagine that even the Solid "blacks" aren't as black as they could be, and that would be the developer. This machine is in the 17 year old range, and I wouldn't spend dime on it
Do the black lines go from the lead edge to the trail edge? Also, were the lines there before you replaced the drum? If so the problem lies in the fixing unit.... You most likely need a upper fixing roller.
Streaks at 2.82 inch intervals: Horizontal marks at this interval are the result of a mark on the
fusing roller of the printer. In some cases, these marks can be cleared
up by running a cleaning page through the unit. Laser Printer Cleaning
sheets can be purchased at your local printer/office supply store. If
the marks persist, this can indicate a more serious problem with the
fusing roller that would require service attention.
Streaks at 3.74 inch intervals: Horizontal marks at this interval are the result of a mark on the image
drum of the printer. There is no way to repair a damaged photosensitive
image drum, so in the case that it is scratched or otherwise damaged,
the entire CRU (toner/drum cartridge) would require replacement to
clear up these marks.
