Thanks for the help on the espresso machine. I tried running just water through, and the flow was fine with just water. Switch to grounds (especially pods) and it's horrible. I'm going to try decalcifying tonight, perhaps that will do it?

It sounds to me that your group seal is bad. Since this machine is a 15-Bar unit, it puts out quite a bit of pressure causing water to leak out around the portafilter when making espresso if your seal is old or damaged. The pressure doesn't build up as much when you are running just water through the machine - hence the reason why the machine works ok without grounds. I sell a LOT of parts and accessories for various manufacturers of espresso machines. This particular seal is extremely difficult to locate fom Cuisinart, but is rather easy to replace. Through extensive testing, I have located a replacement gasket produced by another major manufacturer that fits the Cuisinart EM-100 & EM-200 machines perfectly. I sell them for $10.99 each (or two for $19.99) which includes shipping in the continental US and I accept Paypal. If you would like to contact me via email (email@example.com), I will be happy to help you out.
Slide water chamber out and put filtered water in it - i would make only 1 cup at a time, so fill only to the minimum fill line. Most tap water will overpower the taste of the espresso. Use grounds, not pods - podded espresso will come out too weak. I would suggest using the double filter cup instead of the single - doubles can be ordered from Cuisinart website.
Tamp the coffee a little less - run water through filter basket to make sure it is dripping out before filling with espresso grounds. Dry the filter thoroughly before inserting coffee grounds. I would reccomend using double filter basket only instead of the single.
