Question about Sharp R-306LK Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Motor 'Dragging' We have a fairly new (3 months old) Sharp R-306L 1100 Watts Microwave Oven. When cooking (does not matter which setting) the motor sounds like it's 'dragging' and sounds 'labored'. Unit heats the food just fine, and the turntable rotates. It would seem to me that the motor should increase in both pitch and speed with a higher setting but this one seems to be stuck in low gear all the time. The wall socket tests at 115/120 and we have tried other sockets elsewhere in the home with the same result. Maybe 1100 watts is too much for our tired old electric service? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jakeman97

Kudos to you Mr. Mark52...poor old electric service and then some.

We were using the same socket as our twenty three year old 'tired' Whirlpool Refirerator and never thought much about it. Long story short we replaced our old 'fridge' with a new Fridgidaire this past weekend and now the Microwave operates and sounds normal.

    Thanks Mr. Mark52.

PS. Our A/C is on a dedicated 220/230 line.

The motor run's the same speed regardless of power setting.

If 1000 wats is too much for your poor old electric service, then you better not use your A/C.

As for checking voltage, you need to measure the voltage at the plug with the microwave operating.

My microwave is 25 years old, will it be working to maximum efficiency

If all the settings work and the door closes ok . why throw it out ?. It may not be quite as efficient power wise as a brand new one. the few cents extra to run it against the price of a new one, I would stay with old faithful.

There are door switches and one of them is evidently out of adjustment or the little actuator arm on it is.

At least twice in the past month have had food explode all over the microwave (as if it was overheating). Items vented properly or not covered at all. this time, kept making poppong noises for at lesat 10...

If you have an item overheating, try looking at the directions on the unit for the watts and adjust cooking time according to the oven. Some foods will explode if left for too long in a quick heating microwave oven. If this is a new problem and the microwave is 4 years old, you may consider the unit is beyond its useful life. Its difficult to tell w/o knowing the brand, but it could be the meagtron tube is simply wearing/worn out. Let me know if this helps. m

Plate doesn't spin on mw8102ss

There is a motor underneath the oven that turns the plastic coupling the plate fits over. Either the motor has gone bad or the plastic coupling has cracked where it fits over the motor shaft. According to the Sears parts website (www.searspartsdirect.com), the plastic coupling (Emerson part # M0R0688) has been discontinued with no replacement. The motor is part # M0S1033 at $36.99.

You can continue using the oven even if the plate doesn't turn, but you have to occasionally open the oven and turn the food yourself to aid in even cooking.
