Id ask for the money back on the tv since its covered by the ext warranty.if they only want to fix it one time knowing it will do the same thing again they should take the tv back and refund your money instead of trying to make you buy another tv from them.there is also the better buisness bureau you can report them to to get a refund if nothing else helps.i would not settle for either of the deals they are tring to offer, if they had a recall on the set they should have notified you of that so you could return the tv then and not have this problem now. tell them you simply want to return the tv for a refund since it has the recall and buy another tv other than sony

It sounds like you have a faulty optics block. It usually shows up as a reddish bar going accross the top 1/3 of the TV. If this is the case you are in luck as Sony has extended the warranty for these faulty units. Click on the following link for information..

Sony KF50WE620 Rear projection, Built June 2005 Blueish half moon on the bottom of the screen...? stretches 2/3 the width of the screen centered in the middle and about 3 to 4 inches up from the bottom....

Yes, it is expensive unless it is one of the ones on Sony's extended warranty list, you need a light engine. Call Sony and see if it is on their extended warranty list.

I heard that Sony has a warranty for a optical block. Our tv has a 5 inch red on the top and a 3 inch blue at the bottom. Model KDF50E2000

I have a KDS 50A2000 purchased Dec of 2006. Had a similar problem, Light green areas on the screen. Called Sony and they said it was the "optical block". That's the bad news, the good news is that they have extended the warrenty to 2010 to cover it. And for those that paid out of pocket, they are reimbersing you for it.

Oh, the repair shop said that I needed to send him proof of purchase so he could get the part. I spoke with the Sony help desk and they said that all the repair shop needs is the case number.
