Calypso GVW9959K washer with OB code

My calypso washer displays the OB code. I assume it means out of balance but when I fluff the clothes and restart it the cycle does not complete and the clothes still remain wet. The tub begins to spin and the cycle still displays OB. The tub is only about 1/4 full of clothes.

When I open the rear access panel I see the tank with an inlet hose and an outlet hose. The clamp attaching the inlet hose is positioned such that it can only be removed from the front. There is so little space how do I get to the pump?

This is a common problem with the Calypso washers. The problem that you are having is related to the pump. There is something in the pump that is causing the error code to occur. Since the pump isn't working right all of the water isn't draining out thus causing it to be out of balance. If you can get down to the pump and check it out chances are you will find something in it. It might just be some fabric or string from clothing caught around the pump motor. Just make sure you clamp off the hoses or you will flood your laundry room. Once you clear out the pump unplug the washer and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in. Let me know if you have any other questions and let me know if this was helpful. Good luck and glad I could help.

The pump is located in the front of the machine. If you open the front of the machine you will be able to get to it. You can open the front or you can tip the machine back and remove the screws that hold the bottom panel on. That is the easiest way, remove the bottom panel. Once the bottom panel is off the pump is right there in the front. Not to say that this other person is wrong but clear out the pump first. The OB code is an out of balance code. I used to work as a tech for Sears and fixed these problems daily. It's usually just a piece of clothing that got ripped or a piece of string stuck in the pumps motor causing it to jamb. Please don't stick any epoxy in the pump motor, what worked for him may cause more problems for you. If that epoxy drips into the motor it will ruin it and that will be expensive to repair.

Anyway, just pull out the few screws holding in the bottom panel under the washer. Your pump will be right there when it is off. If you have any other questions let me know, and let me know if this is helpful. Good luck and take care.

I had same problem exept Pump splines were stripped out. Tech told me it would be $250 to fix. I took pump off motor shaft leaving the hoses hooked up. Put a dab of 2 part epoxy in pump splines, put pump back on motor and waited 60 minutes. Works great and cost me 25 cents to fix.

Washer keeps shuting off in the spin cycle and the code ob shows up.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error ob indicates off balance, if the motor controller detects an unrecoverable off-balance condition, the machine controller will shut down and display an “ob” for off balance. The lid switch must be opened at least once before restarting the cycle, if this condition occurs. Opening the lid will allow the customer to view and redistribute the load. Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

What does error code ob mean on a Whirlpool Calypso washer? The washer stops in mid cycle with the error code ob. I restart it and after a few minutes it shows the same error code again.

The OB indicates and out of balance condition has been detected by the motor control. You say this happens when the washer is empty also. One thing about the OB error is that the lid must be opened to clear the error and allow the washer to advance to the next part of the cycle. If the lid is not opened to adjust the clothes then the OB error will happen again.

If the OB error was cleared and the OB occurs with an empty load then the motor control has failed.

The drain pump must work. The image below shows how to run a diagnostic test to check the drain pump. Follow the instructions in the image below and check the drain pump operation. If the pump runs and the water does not drain then the sump is clogged. If the pump hums but does not run then the pump needs to be replaced.

I have a whirlpool calypso washer and it is showing an error code of C1, what does this mean and how do I fix it

CI (an "i", not a "one") and OB are related - overloaded, the washer's motor controller will draw too much current and either the average current will peak ("CA" error) or the instantaneous current will spike ("CI" error). OB - out of balance - indicates of course a load that is not balanced, or is too heavy. Wash less items and see if the problems lessen. That is what we have had to start doing, but we still can wash a BUNCH of items in this type washer!

Calypso washer machine

Off Balance. From the service manual (you can google error codes for these machines), if the motor controller detects an unrecoverable off-balance condition, the machine controller will shut down and display an "ob" for off balance. The lid switch must be opened at least once before restarting the cycle, if this condition occurs. Opening the lid will allow you to view and redistribute the load. Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

This could be an out of balance condition. When its happened to my washer, I rearrange the load if its large enough, and if its not, I find other items of like weight and add them to the load and start over. Calypso's are sensitive to fabric weight, so If you're washing towels, wash only towels and wash cloths. Make sure you put small items, like bras, panties, nighties, etc., in mesh bags and combine them with other light weight fabrics.
