You will want to take out the screws on the back of the dryer behind the control panel. Once off you will see all the wires and such connecting to the timer and the knobs. Make sure you disconnect the power first before digging in in there. When you find the spot that your knob goes take that control part off and place your knob in. Once you have the back off you will see how it goes on. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me and please let me know if this was helpful to you. Good luck and glad I could help.

Need control knob timer dryer doesn't shut off

If you are stating that the timer knob never moves to the off position, then the timer is probably bad and needs replaced. If you can't turn the timer because the knob feels too loose then possibly the knob is just broken. Timer knobs usually just pull straight off so you can look at the back side and see if the plastic around the shaft hole is cracked.

The knob on the right just turns (no clicking) so it does not seem to be selecting a time. now dryer wont start.

Check your timer knob. On these GE dryers I have found a lot of times the knob cracks where the stem of the timer goes in and the resistance of the timer will make ti slip internally rather than turning the knob. If the knob appears to be ok, then I would say you definitely have a bad timer on your hands.
Timer is part number WE4M271 and runs around $100 from marcone's
Knob is
WE1M654 and is around 18$

Good ;uck with this!!

My timer is not working. the turner is turning to loose. it does not click while turning. the start button does not begin.

Common problem with the GE dryers is the start button will crack and will not catch the stem. Try changing the start knob over with the heat selection knob and see if you can start then.

The start knob doesn't engage when pulled. Do I just need to replace the knob assembly? Is it difficult?

Take the knob off and try using pliers to pull the stem. Don't pull any harder than you would with the knob. If it works, you just need a knob. If it still won't engage, you need a timer.

Broken knob

You can take it off, but unplug first. Does this knob control the heat or turns it on? If it turns it on, this is a contact switch and can be replaced at a fairly low cost and you can do it yourself. Just match wire for wire. It sounds like it has come loose from the frame.

MY on/of knob is broken from the part that is insede the head of the dryer, can I replace this easily?

most dryer knobs just pull straight off. be sure to get all the pieces off the shaft(small black spring clip on some??). new knobs are easily obtained from any parts house and push on.
