SOURCE: my Marantz CP430 only plays

I suspect the recording problem is that the wires have broken on the back of the recording head.  The heads move forward every time that a cassette is played and the wires have to bend a little.  A common fault on many cassette recorders is that these wires break with constant movement.  I have a machine with the same problem, but getting to the head wiring in a CP430 is far from easy. If it does all that stuff then, you need to take it back or exchange it. If you like the company just exchange it, if not buy from some other company.

Hi,
It sounds like you haven't followed the last step to the burning procedure. All you need to do once you've completed burning your disc is to Finalize the disc. Read below why you need to finalize as well as the steps to follow in order to finalize the disc.
Hope this helps ;)
How to Finalize Finalizing is writing the TOC (table of contents) on a disc so a CD player can recognize the number of tracks, the total time for each track, and their location on the disc. A recorded disc must be finalized to playback on a standard CD player. Once finalized a CD-R disc can be played on CD players that support CD-R playback. CD-RW discs can only be played on CD players that support CD-RW playback. Consult your CD player owner's manual to confirm supported formats. Finalizing is necessary to: • be able to play a recorded CD-R or CD-RW disc on a CD player • prevent further recording on a disc • avoid erasing tracks on a CD-RW disc • record text information onto a disc you record Notes: • A finalized CD-R disc can never be recorded onto again. • A finalized CD-RW disc can be unfinalized for more recording. • The CDR300 can play back unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW discs. • SYNC REC+FINAL mode automatically finalizes.
Here are the steps in order to Finalize your disk
1 Push Stop. The display shows the number of tracks and their total playing time. 2 Push FINALIZE. FINALIZE is displayed for about 3 seconds.

My marantz is recording 5 minute tracks and then opening up a new track ... I want it to record onto one track until I have completed

There are two settings that are important to solve what might be perceived as "irregular" recording processes. The first is to reset "Auto Track" to OFF and the second is to set manual Track to Off. This will result in a more normal recording experience.

Ok, when you say continuous...do you mean it is a roll of label material that does not have gaps in between? If it has gaps...it is NOT a continuous label and you probably have the driver settings set as continuous feed and not gap as it should be....

This is sounding like corrupted firmware. I just checked the Insignia website for a firmware update to fix your issue, but there are no firmware releases as of yet. I believe there is a 1 year warranty on these units so take it back to Best Buy for a new one.
