Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I am having trouble reconnecting the 4 connector FFC for my backlit keyboard.

I was replacing my backlit keyboard for my Asus G60JX laptop and didn't know anything about opening up the ZIF connection for the FFC. Well I figured out the keyboard cable, but the one that powers the backlights is a 4-connector flexible flat cable and I cannot figure out how to get it back into the port from which I pulled it. There's a black tab that I pulled on what I'm guessing is a ZIF and it doesn't make it any easier to insert the cable. I really don't want to break it.

Check the connection on the motherboard a little closer. There should be an unlockable part in the connector which you can slide back and forth in order to remove/fix the cable.

You will need to gently push the connector

Use the VGA port to connect an external monitor, this will get you up and running temporarily until you can fix the screen, it sounds like you have a faulty inverter.

Can you lift the plastic bar at either side on the board where the cable was pulled from?.If so,just lift both sides, one at a time till the plastic bar is loose, then seat your cable straight down until it will go no further and then push both sides of the bar back down to secure the cable...hope that fixes your problem:)

Hi,

No i'm sorry but that model has no keyboard backlight. If you wanted one which did have a backlight you would have to purchase a customised one.

Find the Jack it plugs into. The jack may have a lock that you gently release. Slip in the ribbon cable and lock it in place. If not, it may just slide into the slot.

If it is for your exact model than that keyboard should work. The backlight function is built into the keyboard itself not the laptop. I hope that helps

Problem: remove keyboard ASUS K72JK-TY043V.Thanks

The Asus K72JK-TY043V Notebook PC is one of the Asus K series of Notebook PC's.

This shows how to remove the Keyboard,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-asus-k-series-notebook/

Shown is a disassembly guide, and of course you do not need that.

What I am referencing to is midway down the page under the bold heading >

Removing Keyboard.

The Keyboard is held in, by plastic tabs that are on the Palm Rest Cover.

These tabs are spring loaded. You press against each spring loaded tab, and depress it.

This action unlocks the Keyboard from the spring loaded tab.

There are Five spring loaded tabs.

The spring loaded tabs are located above the following keys;

1) Esc key
2) F5 key
3) F9 key
4) Prt Scr
5) End

Use a small flat bladed screwdriver such as a Jewelers flat tipped screwdriver.

Carefully press the tab TOWARDS to LCD screen.

Once a tab is depressed it unlocks. Go to the next tab.

The back of the Keyboard is towards the LCD screen.
Lift up on the back of the Keyboard.

DO NOT try to remove it at this time, as there is a flat cable attached to the Keyboard.

The Keyboard cable is an FFC.
Flat Flex Cable.

The Keyboard FFC does NOT have a connector attached to it.
The connector is permanently mounted to the motherboard.

The Keyboard's FFC removes from the connector on the motherboard. Just a flat cable hanging from the Keyboard.

The connector on the motherboard is a ZIF connector.
Zero Insertion Force.

This particular ZIF connector has a Lock Clip on it, that is slid slightly to one side.

As you view the flat flex cable coming into the connector, and above the connector, the clip is slid to the Left to unlock.

NOT very far. Approximately 2 Millimeters, or close to 1/16th of an inch.

Have questions please post in a Comment.

joecoolvette

How do i remove and replace my keyboard for satellite a205 laptop

Agree with LaptopRepair. The procedure for Keyboard removal is pretty close.

Wanted to add information on the FFC connector though.

If you have never dealt with a Flat Flex Cable connector, you are going to be in the dark, and could break something.

1) The flat cable from the Keyboard to the motherboard, is a Flat Flex Cable.

2) The connector on the motherboard the FFC connects to, is an FFC connector.

3) The Flat Flex Cable removes FROM the FFC connector.
> Just the flat flex cable, comes out of the connector on the motherboard.

Again, The flat cable by itself comes out of the connector, with no connector on it.

4) The FFC connector on the motherboard, does not come away from the motherboard. It is attached to the motherboard.

The FFC connector on the motherboard does not come apart in two pieces.

It opens to release the flat flex cable.

The FFC connector ONLY opens so far.
(1/8th inch ?) It is a two piece connector, but does Not come apart.

Looking at the FFC connector, you will spot a parting line going across the middle.

The top half of the connector looks like a fat T.
The two tabs on either side at the top of the Top half, make the T head shape.

These two tabs are pushed towards the LCD screen.
Ease one tab up a little, then ease the other tab up.

This opens the connector, and allows the flat flex cable to come out.

Install the flat flex cable from the New Keyboard, in the same direction as the old Keyboard's flat flex cable.

One side of the flat flex cable has exposed copper strips. (Contacts)
The other side does not.

Be sure to install the flat flex cable of the Keyboard in the correct orientation.

Do not rate this information. Just added info.

How turn on keyboard backlight on my asus laptop

If you are asking about toggling the intensity of the backlit keyboard, just use the Function key and F3 to decrease the intensity and F4 to increase the intensity.

If it's not working at all, make sure you have the "ATK Package" installed. If so, uninstall and reinstall the ATK Package - that fixed mine.

If you don't have the ATK Package, find it at asus.com, install it, and run it.

good colleges should recommend a compatible laptop that will easily sync with their school system!
