Need hook up instruction

1.To hook up a router plug the internet cable into the port marked internet. If there is no port marked internet then plug it into whichever port is separated from the other bank of ports. If the ports are contiguous then plug it into the port marked 1.

2.Plug your other Ethernet cables into the remaining ports.

3. Follow the manufacturers instructions to install any necessary drivers. If you cant do that for some reason then you should go to http://compnetworking.about.com/od/workingwithipaddresses/f/getrouteripaddr.htm to figure out your routers IP address, then go to that address using your internet browser and follow whatever instructions/basic setup wizard it has.

My belkin router won't connect to internet, I set it up as the install wizard tells me but when it tries to connect to internet, it takes 10 tries and there is an error, it was a used router we bought so...

First, turn-off the DSL-modem (or the cable-modem).
Then, turn it on.

Check that you have a "straight-through" Ethernet cable -- all 8 coloured wires at one end must be in the SAME order at the other end. Do not use a "cross-over" Ethernet cable.

Check that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the 'WAN' port on the router, not to one of the 'LAN' ports.

Turn the router off.
Turn the router on.

Reconnect to the router's web-interface, and see if the 'WAN' side of the router has obtained an IP-address from your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Some ISPs require that you "register" the MAC (Media Acquisition Control) Address of each device that you connect to their service. So, browse through the router's web-interface, and find the "MAC-address" of the router, which will be different than the MAC-address of the network-adapter inside your computer, and telephone the ISP, and get them to "authorize" the MAC-address of the router.

Telephone your ISP -- they can "troubleshoot" your cable-modem from their end.

Hi, i have wnr2000 and am trying to set it up. i'm at the setup wizard which says that i already have a valid internet connection. what does this mean and what do i do next?

Basically you need to sign up with an Internet Service Provider in your area. The ISP will advise you the type in modem/Internet connection you need for their service (ie. DSL or cable) and advise you or provide you with a compatible DSL or cable modem. The ISP will provide an installation disc or instructions to configure the modem so it connects with their Internet server.
The modem is then connected to the wnr2000 router's Internet/WAN port with a LAN cable.
If you have already configured the modem and connected it to the wrn2000 router and the setup wizard has detected that you already have a valid Internet connection (it has detected your TCP/IP address which your Internet Service Provider has given you - this IP address is your unique network address - it is similar to your house address in your street, in your suburb, in your state, and in your country). Just click OK and continue with the setup.

I cant install my wireless router. i moved and

we ll start with the physical connections.
1.take ethernet cable n connect one end of the cable to the modem and the other end to the isolated port on the router(internet port) and then connect the computer and your router with other cable(any lan port).refer the chart on the router to distinguish the internet and lan port.
2.check the light status on the modem and router.
router lite status-power,alphabet i lite, wireless lite(lollipop lite) and the number light lit up(depends on the port eg port no:1 connected number 1 light lit up).
3.check the ip address and default gateway address.
steps:In windows(xp,2000 etc),click on start->click on run->in the search tab type cmd->dos prompt window opens, type ipconfig and u ll get ip address and default gateway address(192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).note it
In vista,start->in the search tab type cmd->dos prompt window type ipconfig->u ll get the address as specified earlier.
4.open the browser, type the default gateway address in the address bar and press enter. The login window ll ask for username and password. username-admin
password-password.
5.You ll enter the netgear smart wizard page.Run the setup wizard at the left side (blue screen).select yes and detect the type of connection.
6.If it is a cable modem-dynamic ip detected and click next.check whether the dns address is given automatically from isp and click apply. Then click on basic settings under setup menu and in that window in the router mac address select "use computer mac address "option and click on apply. Now click on router status under maintenance menu and check the ip address in internet port(it should not be 0.0.0.0) and in lan port(eg 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.0.2).
7.If its a dsl modem-the type of connection ll be detected as pppoe.click next.configure your router with the username and password provided by the isp and click on apply. The router ll save the settings and then check the internet port and lan port
address as given in the previous step.
8.Now we have to configure the router for wireless settings(both modems same configuration).
*click wireless settings under set up menu.
*In that page enter
name(ssid):netgear2
region:us
channel:11
. mode:g and b

In security options select wep and key1 give your telephone number so that you wont forget the password.CLICK APPLY.we have secured the n/w.
9.scan and connect to the network.
For windows vista-start->connect to->select the network name(netgear2)and click connect->it ll ask for password, enter it(telephone no).you ll successfully connected. Now disconnect the cable and try going online wirelessly.
For xp-start->control panel->network connections->right click on wireless network connection->select the network and configure.
10.you ll be able to go online wirelessly if there is any problem delete the preferred networks.
I have given you all the steps with examples to help you configure the router.hope you ll fix the issue and further assisstance im ready to help u but pls give details about your operating system, type of modem and no of computers so that it ll easy for me to troubleshoot.rate me if i have helped you.Thank you. To configure your router for Cable you will need to set your router's WAN (INTERNET) port to 'Dynamic IP' (DHCP) option. The router is set to this option by default.

Configuration steps:

Step 1 Connect the cable modem to the WAN (INTERNET) port of your router. If the modem has USB connection make sure that it is NOT connected to any computers via the USB cable and that the modem is switched to Ethernet (not USB). Only the modem's Ethernet port should be connected to the router's WAN (INTERNET) port.
Connect your computer(s) to the router's LAN port(s) or establish connection to it wirelessly.

Step 2 Open your Internet Explorer and log into your router by typing in its IP address (in most cases the default IP is http://192.168.2.1 ). Note that you do not have to be on the Internet in order to access this address because you are just connecting to your router's address. Specify username and password for your router, default is `admin' and password is password.

Step 3 After logging into the router select Setup. Set Internet Connection to 'Dynamic IP (DHCP)' option.

Step 4 Click on SAVE SETTINGS and then on REBOOT THE DEVICE to apply the new configuration.

If you are having difficulties accessing the Internet, you need to:

- Select the MAC Cloning option. Click on Clone MAC Address button. Do this from the computer which the cable modem was directly connected the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the router. Save settings and reboot the router. Reboot your cable modem as well.

- Log into the router and go to Status page. Note what IP address it is getting on the WAN (INTERNET) interface. If the IP address you see under WAN (INTERNET) appears to be in the same range you are using on your network (e.g. 192.168.2.x), you will need to change the range you are using on your LAN to something different, e.g. 192.168.88.x. You can do this on your router under Setup > LAN Setup. Note that after changing the IP of your router you will only be able to access it through its new IP, e.g. 192.168.88.1.

- Uninstall your antivirus/firewall software (sometimes disabling or closing the software is not enough) and reboot your PC. After establishing the Internet connection through the router, reinstall your antivirus/firewall software.
