Question about Sony Walkman NWZ-A828 Digital Media Player
The device only switches on when it is plugged into a computer. And then all it does is says "connecting USB (MTP)" constantly when plugged in. You can't even access a menu. As soon as you take it out of the USB port, it just switches off and won't switch on again unless re-plugged pack into the USB. Thanks.
I have a problem with my player which could well be related, the unit appears to power off but in reality is still draining the battery (I never see the "every moment has it's music" thing)
I've replaced the battery and upgraded the firmware to no effect , so I think the hardwares at fault, all I can do for the moment is leave the player plugged into USB until I need to use it.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

I had the same problem, thought mine was broke! Went on the sony webside where I found this -
Battery is 100% discharged. Therefore, PC's USB with 5V/500mA set up has not enough power to start up the charging process because loading current is greater than the set up, therefore USB is disabled immediately due to sudden current load.

Since there's no easy option in the Walkman's settings to switch back and forth between MTP and UMS, there's a little trick to un-do the MTP drivers so that the unit becomes a straight USB Mass Storage drag/drop unit. You have to go into Device Manager (Windows XP), find the Walkman in the Portable Devices group, right click, then select Update Driver. Then select "No, not this time", then Next. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then Next. Select "Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install", then Next. (Be sure to check the box beside Show Compatible Hardware) Highlight USB Mass Storage Device, then Next. (To revert back to MTP, just do the same thing but choose MTP instead of USB Mass Storage Device.) Personally, I'd never go back to the MTP mode. Having the Walkman seen by the computer as just another USB mass storage device allows the drag/drop transfers to go much faster

Win Xp -> Go to Start-Control Panel - System - Device Manager - Last on the list is MTP player, click on it and select upgrade driver - i will choose myself - i there will be two options ( MTP player and USB mass storage device ) Pick Usb mass storage and then OK. Then your MP3 player is visible in My Computer
