WHEN this motor catches on fire it will destroy the rest of your pump and probably take out your filter also. Maybe your house while it's at it.. Replace the motor. You are literally playing with fire.

Sounds like you may have a failed start switch in the motor. It appears the start winding did not drop out and the pump would not come up to full speed.

Polaris pump making a noise. loud noise, can i get parts to fix it.

If you want to fix it all yourself then you can get parts to fix a pump like that. With the symptoms you have it may be a starting capacitor. You can take apart the pump to gain access to the impeller. If the impeller rotates easily then the motor is probably ok if you replace the capacitor. If you open it up and bring the capacitor or better yet the whole motor and or pump in to an electric motor repair company in your area they should have a new capacitor to sell you or a new motor if needed. A new capacitor may cost maybe 20 to 40 dollars and a new motor may cost you 200 to 300 dollars.

If you are not wanting to turn wrenches yourselfthen my best suggestion is to bring it to Leslies Pool Supplies and they oftencan put it right for the price of the parts while you watch (they may not have a cap or motor in stock).

I hope this helps.

Replacing the motor is not very easy but you might be able to be a major part of the repair. I say repair because the motor may be ok. The capacitor might be all that is wrong.

My advise it that you make sure no voltage can be supplied to the motor. Next you need to use a combination or socket wrench to remove the four bolts that hold the pump together. The pump should be able to come apart exposing the internal parts. The cover that covers the wiring connections on the other end of the motor can be removed and the wire terminal screws can be loosened until the wires can be disconnected. At this point the motor assembly can be separated from everything else.

What you can do next is bring the motor assembly down to Leslies Pool Supplies and they can first determine if installing a capacitor on it will make it work. If the motor is bad they will have one or can get one and assemble it with any other parts including the seal, etc. in order to get it back in good order.

You can then bring it back and install it with information they provide.

If you are not comfortable with the above method then you could find a friend, neighbor or relative that could help you do the work at your location or you could get a professional to do the repair.

I hope this helps.

Capacitor should be inside cylindrical cover on motor's side; simplest test is to replace it. If motor humms but won't turn maybe bad capacitor, stuck bearing (turn by hand) or bad/dirty centrifugal switch contact. If no humm at all, may have burnt internal neutral wire.

My emerson pool engine just hums, what is wrong with it?

SWITCH IT OFF and check the shaft will rotate freely and there is no play in the bushings either end. If it is mechanically ok either one of the windings is burnt out or if fitted the run capacitor is at fault. If you can access the windings make sure they are continuous with an ohm meter. To check the capacitor apply the meter across the connections and the resistance will rise as the capacitor charges up if it's OK. This humming is usually caused by the rotor not rotating and the effect of the electro-magnetic field upon the internal laminated parts. Either the bushings are worn and the rotor is touching the stator part of the motor, or the electo-magnetic field is not cycling around the rotor.

PUMP TRIPS BREAKER, BUT SHAFT ROTATES FREELY

Probably not. Take the capacitor off and inspect it for physical damage and if it looks ok take it to an electric motor shop for testing. Assuming it is ok your motor will probably need work or replacement.

USQ1102 pump gets power, buzzes, trips breaker

The motor-start capacitor is bad. This is a very common problem. It can be easily and cheaply fixed by replacing the capacitor. Replacements are usually less than $10.

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEIv5ClLqXg for a step=by=step guide.

When you have the capacitor in hand, check the model# which is printed on it. Alternatively, you can Google the motor brand & model to find the parts list which will identify the right one. Then Google the part number, to find a seller.
