Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

1 Answer

CPU Usage High

I have an HP Media Center m7470n
Motherboard: Amethyst-M (MSI-7184)
AMD 64 X2 4200+
4gb RAM
Video: Radion HD4670 1gb
Sound: X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty

My CPU usage is high, the total averages 47%. This is caused by System Interrupts. I have Catalyst 8.3 drivers for my chipset, those are the latest ones for the SB400. The rest of the system drivers are Microsoft, except for video and sound. Wich have the latest manufacturer drivers. I'm using VItsa 64 bit OS. I've been reserching this problem on the internet for 2 weeks and I've tried many things, including several clean installs. The system Idle process is low averaging around 50%.

Sounds like your processor might be heating up too fast. I would take the computer apart, clean it removing all dust from the fans, check to see if the fan is actually spinning and check to make there the silicon glue has not dried up. It could also be that your power supply isnt supplying enough power but if you haven't added any devices that wouldn't be the issue.

Hi,

Judging from the symptoms you describe I suspect that your graphics card is faulty. Did you buy the card new? If so, I would suggest returning it & asking the store to test it for you.
If it is determined that the card is not faulty, reply to this post & I will try to help you further.

Your existing CPU will not work with that motherboard. The AM2+/AM2 processor slot is for AMD processors only. For this motherboard, you will need one of the following processors: Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2
