Ok... not sure if this resolves the issue for brigitteserr but just some general tips.

The Scan button will only work if you have installed a suitable scanner based software packed on your computer. As a general rule this is the Navigator software for your Canon model as provided with your driver disk (or on the Canon website).

Personally I would recommend that instead of using the scan button on the printer, you initiate any scanning from your software and then work from there as all the scan button does is initialise the program and nothing else.

Hope that helps.

Has anyone experienced a scan failure (to email and smb)? Any resolutions?

One of the common and simple problems I run into is that many firewall programs will block the scanning. Usually I have to setup an exception in the firewall to allow the IP address of the scanner access to the PC. Which would be true even if you have connected directly with a cross over cable.

I need help with scanning on my Epson Stylus CX4200.

Try downloading HPs PhotoSmart

If you have trouble getting PhotoSmart, you can find plenty of scanner software for free

However.... You will need to remove your Epson software from you computer before loading other software.

Check the Epson website for software updates and version capibilitys

After scanning all I get is an unreadable computer jibberish file

How about copying from the machine itself? are you experiencing the same thing? If not. Try reinstalling the software for scanning or Epson Scan.

When I press scan, it says I must install device software, also the date does not match what date it is

It appears to be scanning drivers are experiencing issues in communicating with the device. To fix this issue permanently please uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

Make sure that Printer USB cable is unplugged from the computer before uninstalling.

Can't operate operate scanner of my copier (km-4030)

Does it have the scanner module fitted? If it does then the Scanner button will display the scan screen. Also check that you have another network port above the print board. If not then you do not have the scan board fitted. If you do have the scan board fitted, please be more precise with the errors that you are experiencing.

Lexmark, scanner asks for pin code and won't scan without it.

This drove me mad for about 2 hours (I've just experienced the same problem), but have finally found the solution!

Firstly, it depends on what Lexmark you have (as different printers use different software)...

For my Lexmark which is an S600, I went into the program 'Lexmark home' which was in the lexmark folder on the start menu and in my lexmark software folder, went to 'settings' and then 'Network computer name'. From here you can set the pin.

According to people experiencing this problem with other Lexmarks, you can do this via the equivalent 'productivity suite' program through 'network settings'.

Hope this helps.

I just experienced the same issue. Turn you printer off and back on. This should reset it. Hope this works like it did for me.

Noise during scanning

Not really these are sealed units - nothing to repair. If it works grit your teeth and bear it. If you open it up and try to lubricate the offending parts the chances are you will kill it dead.
