The recorder will record the file in WMA format. You will probably need to search for third party software that will allow you to change the format from WMA to WAV. Do a google search for audio editing software that converts from WMA to WAV. Olympus does not provide any software that does this type of conversion.

The recorder should be formatted only by using the internal FORMAT function found in the recorder's Menu. Using a computer to format the recorder may corrupt or delete system files needed to run the recorder, so formatting via the computer is not recommended.
Individual files can be deleted from the recorder while it is connected to a computer without negative effects.

How do you convert the mp3 from the olympus digital voice recorder into a .wav file. I know it requires I Tunes, but other than that I don't have a clue. I know how to convert a normal mp3, but...

I think maybe the Olympus MP3 is DRM protected so if you would like to convert the file into .wav file .the first thing you need to do is to remove drm from this file and then convert it .here,I 'd like to introduce you an all-in-one music converter.you could solve all your problem at the same time .save your time .http://www.removing-drm.com/music-converter/reference.html

Formatting the Recorder (FORMAT)
If you format the recorder, all function settings will return to their defaults.
All files stored in the recorder will be deleted.
If you have important files that you want to save, connect the recorder to a computer and
transfer those files from the recorder to the computer before formatting the device.
1 Press the MENU button.
2 Press the FF or REW button to choose “FORMAT”.
3 When the PLAY button is pressed, “nO” is displayed.
4 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
After “ARE yOU SURE” is displayed, “nO” will be displayed.
5 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
“DONE” displays when formatting ends.
s It may take up to several tens of seconds to finish the initialization. Do not remove the battery or detach
the battery compartment from the recorder during that time. Otherwise data may be damaged.
s Never format the recorder from a PC.
s When the recorder is formatted, all the stored data, including locked files, are erased.

Recording format

You'll need a software program to convert between audio formats. Here's a link to a free one that you can try:

If it isn't quite what you were looking for there are lots of free converters out there. Just go to www.google.com and search for 'convert wma to wav' and you'll be presented with some choices, most of them free.

WS-300M Olympus Voice Recorder

you can rewind a tad and listen, but you can't overrecord, because a digital recorder writes audio information into a data file and saves it. you just can play it back again and record a new file. if you want to cut off a part of your recording, you have to edit the file in an audio editor. - as the olympus stores wma-files, you'll have to convert them into wav format first to edit them. i tried the 'switch' software successfully.
