SOURCE: I have an MTD Snow Thrower Model 2M1 with a broken

When you have the starter top removed, you must wind the spring BEFORE installing the rope. Wind the pulley until it is at maximum tension, then unwind it until the hole in the pulley lines up with the eyelet on the starter top. Now, put the rope thru the eyelet and into the pulley hole. It is helpful to have somebody holding the tension on the pulley, or you can insert a small tool thru the vent holes to hold the pulley in place. Use a figure 8 knot on the rope. Go ahead and tie the handle onto the other end of the rope, and release the pulley tension. It should now recoil into the starter housing. Test pull the rope several times to make sure it is moving freely. Reinstall the starter housing onto the engine and retest.
Good luck!

Carb adjustment and what is the correct spark plug

If the snow thrower worked last year I would suspect old fuel in the tank. Dump out the old fuel in the tank and put in fresh. Put a squirt of starting fluid in the carb and try to start it. If it fires the ignition is good. Do this a few times to pull the old fuel through the carb and fuel line. When the new fuel gets through the fuel system to the engine it will stay running. The spark plug in the engine will have number on it. Get one with the same number if you want to replace it.

I need to know what spark plug to use for my snow thrower. My son lost the one I had taken out to be replaced.

If snow thrower uses ordinary gasoline, then go to hardware store and get spark plug for lawn mower.

If snow blower uses 2-cycle engine oil mixed with gas, then get spark plug for weed eater.

Or buy both and try them out.

Hardware store is more likely to have someone familiar with which spark plug you need than box-size home center.

I have a craftman snow thrower, model#536.886122, serial#632722946 and I'm in need of a manuel.

Manuals of Sears products are available through their 'Parts Direct' system and have been resonable in price. The last one for a riding mower cost ~$7.00
