I would replace the evaporater fan motor if it shuts down but you shouldn't turn freezer on and off because you can build a high gas pressure and damage the compressor a better way is to push the door switch in and listen for fan operation. it's possible that you are causing some of the problem by checking operation too often. if you are losing food in freezer you should call factory service and have them look at it because there are too many things that could cause the problem you are having

What causes the coils behind the panel in the freezer to freeze up and stop the freezer fan? top half of freezer defrosts, lower half stays cold.Fridge is side by side and freezer fan keeps turning of

When the evaporator fan motor stops running the top half of the back wall of the freezer will frost over and the the only reason the lower portion stays cool is because cold air falls. More than likely you have a a dc motor fan and its bad, but be wary with ge, the main control board could also go bad causing the fan not to run.

GE fridge not cooling. freezer working ok. compressor fan not working

This is an odd thing to hear. Normally when the condensor fan (}compressor fan) Isn't running the freezer is the one who's temperature rises and the fridge stays about the same. I would strongly suggest looking at the main control board, just for the simple fact that 9 out of 10 times thats the root of the problem

Only half of the freezer and half of the fridge are working

heat rises and cold stays down on the lower shelves,if the evap fan motor isn't blowing this will happen, next time send the brand name and model number off of the machine, open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you have a bad evap fan motor, all it does is the freezer gets cold, the fan blows the cold air from the freezer to the fridge section, also if the fan isn't working when you remove the back inside wall of the freezer if there's any ice melt it out with a hair dryer, unplug the machine before you start working on it,call your parts store, give them the model number and they will sell you the parts you need.

FREEZER COLD REFRIGERATOR WARM EVEN AFTER TEMPERATURE ADJUSMENTS WERE DONE.

Check to see if the freezer fan is turning. If this fan doesn't work properly, adequate cold air is not moved from the freezer to the refrigerator.

If the fan is turning, you likely can hear it. It should be behind an access plate at the top of the freezer. If you can't hear the fan, remove this plate, and look at it. If it's not turning, you need to replace the fan motor.

GE Refrigerator-Freezer side works fine/Refrigerator side not ok

You most likely have a defrost problem. Check the inside back panel of the freezer. See if there is ice built up. If so, you have a problem with the defrost. 85% of the time, it's caused by a bad heater. It could be the termination thermostat, timer or fan. If the ice is built up. Take the panel out and defrost with hair dryer. If you want, you can now check the heater and termination thermostat. It's a closed switch that opens on the rise. If you fix it your self or not, To save your food. You can replace the panel and turn the fridge back on, it will operate correctly for 3 or 4 days. This will give you time to either get the part and fix it or for someone to get out and repair.
Please rate solution and make it worth the while to summit solutions. Thanks

Something to check for. Is the top of the refrigerator door lower than the freezer door? If so the ref. light may not be turning off all the time. Pull bottom panel off to expose hinges. The ref hinge should have an adjuster. Adjust door up to be level with freezer.
