Red Screen Hi, Some months ago my screen went all red then switched between blue and green. A few days later, it came back to normal. A few days ago, my screen went all red. I switched inputs and it came back to normal. Yesterday it went all red and will not come back to normal after trying switching inputs, perfect focus command, etc. Is this fixable? Thank you!

Re: Red Screen

Try tapping lightly on the tub that matches your color problem.
do you see it come and go? if so then you have bad tubes.
you can try to rejuvenate them but is not recomended.

Hi. I own a Sony KP-51WS500 rear projection system where several months ago the red arced lines started to appear accross the entire screen, dim at first but growing in intensity. In the last few days the...

This is a model prone to all three tubes failing in this way. When the sets were less than a year old there was a program from Sony to replace all three tubes--it seems the wrong tubes were installed.

The tubes are now only available on a rebuild basis--take out old one and send out for rebuild and very expensive.

An alternative exists, it involves (in your case red) getting at the RED SCREEN CONTROL AND TURNING IT DOWN UNTIL THE SET DOES NOT SHUT DOWN and then adjusting it further. No parts will be involved and should take less than 20 minutes.

Set will shut down if screen turns bright red, green or blue as it detects too much current is being drawn.

If you want to know how to attempt this, rate this solution as very helpful and I will assist you.

You need to take your tv in and have the picture deflector re-aligned.  This doesn't cost much, My dad had to do that to his a few months ago and it cost 30 bucks.

Screen all blue

Try looking into the blue CRT lens while its on and see if the coolant has congealed. You will be able to tell if it has bacteria growing as this can cause the blue to be unresposive and make your screen have a blue haze. The coolant will need changing if this is congealed with bacteria. This is a common problem in all projection tvs blue and green are more prone to this sympton red is not.

Convergence Problems

If you did not use heat sink compound then you probably have not hurt the new IC's yet but you should remove them and add the heat sink compound NOW. If the convergence IC's are bad then you will have access to the convergence menu but the adjustments will have no effect. The fact that you switched the IC's and got the same results shows that the IC's are good. If your red convergence is still way out when the new IC's are installed then the old IC probably burned out the low value resistor associated with the Red Vertical (RV) channel.
