If your computer is shutting down randomly and not because it is doing a post update restart, it may be worth giving the interior a clean as it could be overheating from dust build up in the fans and heatsink. Before you do that make sure you use a soft paint brush and that the power is disconnected from the computer. Be gentle with the brush as the capacitors are delicate and important.

SOURCE: Blue screen w/msg: A promblem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If the video card is ok try to reset your motherboard. just open your cpu and look for a battery on the board. (be sure your pc in unplugged) remove the battery by pressing the little lever in the bottom part of the battery after a few seconds place it back again just by pushing it.

Try also disk cleanup, disk defragmenter and system file checker...

hope this helps...

note: system file checker works works with the windows disk, it restores corrupted system files with a new one...

SOURCE: Upgraded Dell Dimension 3100 memory to 2 Gigs - Windows XP fails

Did you add the two sticks with the 512 or remove the 512 and add the two 1gb sticks? Try booting the machine with ONLY the 1gb sticks in.

Your machine supports 1gb modules but they can't be higher than 533MHz. Check that the memory you purchased was either PC3200 (400MHz) or PC4200 (533MHz) and is 1.8v. If you post the part number off of one of the modules I can look it up for you.

You can do a system restore to revert the computer's configuration to a known good state. Click on Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Select a date when the computer was still working great or before the update was initiated.

Launch it and it should go back to the original driver.

I think the update was not correct. You should have updated it with the right one to get the best result. Try using RadarSync so that you can get the correct updates for all the drivers in your computer.

I hope this helps!

Not configuring update correctly...reverting changes

You didn't give your make, model of laptop, or your OS? What updates? Did you reboot your machine? Shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Sometimes if you have change the OS on a machine you will get erroneous updates. Sometimes due to other conditions you will get a error message that may help to ID the problem.

Configuration data stored in the CMOS doesn't match the PC's actual hardware. Run the BIOS setup utility to confirm the proper configuration values. Configure the correct value.

Our XPS keeps shutting down on its own, says it detected an error, then we try to restart and it goes to a blue screen, doesn't restart right.

Unplug any hardware, modems, sound cards, video cards, ect. Start CPU, go into bios settings by hitting delete, or F10 button as soon as it starts to boot,, load set up defaults, restart into normal mode. Or, as soon as cpu starts re boot, press F8 and choose last known good configuration. Hope this helps!

boot computer when it first starts up push F8 for advance menu. in advance menu select last known good configuration. hit enter . if the computer ges to desk top do a system restore . to before the issue started. if this fails you will need the windows disk to do a system repair. your configuration may be corrupted.

Sounds like it might be a hard drive problem. First, you may want to try a reinstall of the operating system (booting just from the CD), or also attempt a diagnostic (F12 at Dell Logo). If the first does not work, or if the drive fails diagnostics, you will need to replace it

Reboot into Safe Mode by repeatingly tapping on F8 while in process of rebooting and then select "last known good configuration". If that fails reboot again to safe mode and select safe mode with command prompt and in the command prompt type "chkdsk /f /r " <enter>

If that doesnt work do place your Windows CD into the Cd-Rom, reboot and select option "Repair"
