GX160 pull start spring broken how do I get the bolt loose??

Have tried to get the bolt loose to repair spring will not budge. Is it normal threads or left hand?

Unscrew clock wise.in reverse to normal procedures.

Are the Cutting blades bolts for a John Deere LT 160 right handed thread or left handed thread?


It is typical to use right handed thread so you would turn them clockwise to install, and counterclockwise to remove. The blade rotates towards the cutting edge which is typically counterclockwise, so to remove the bolt, you unscrew it, with the handle of your wrench pulling towards the back of the blade.. These bolts can be really tight. Pull the spark plug lead or remove the ignition key so you don't get an accidental start. Wear gloves, there are sharp bits.

Husqvarna 135 chainsaw recoil prolem


im not so sure this will help you, except to laugh , let me just say this i hope not, but this one reminded me of one a guy brought to me one day he said it wouldnt start , when i tried to pull it over , it woulnt budge not an inch , after carefull exam of pull rope , i saw the cord had broken and this guy in a fit of frustration used his daughters jump rope to replace it , thats not gonna work , this guy had over six feet of pink jump rope jammed inside this thing , i dont know how he fit it inside but there it was pink and all , i replaced the cord for him (not pink) but did offer to repaint the case pink , he said great maybe i could get my wife to run it then !! long story short maybe the cord reel inside is rubbing on something like a loose bolt or screw they do come loose lots of times ya know

A blunt needle can also cause this. Try pulling a button thread or any slightly thicker thread through all the tension springs, perhaps you have a blockage somewhere.

Broken spring in recoil starter on lawn mower


While I have not done this on newer model lawn mowers, I have replaced recoil springs in the past. Here's what I did: First you need to pull the spark plug wire off so the engine will not start. Then block the flywheel with a piece of wood to keep it from turning. Then, using another piece of wood such as a short (6-8 inch) hardwood dowel placed against the ears of the recoil drive, and drive it in a reverse direction (clockwise) with a hammer to knock it loose. It may take several sharp blows to break it loose. The recoil drive is reverse threaded to keep it from coming loose when the engine is running. Once the drive is loose, remove it to get access to the recoil spring which must be replaced if it is broken. With a new spring in place, rethread the recoil drive counter clockwise until it is finger tight. Then, tighten it down with one sharp blow against the wooden dowel.

found the problem and unfortunately it is not something that i can fix and will have to take it to the repair shop on monday. The thread spring for that needle is broken and flopping around a little bit more than it should. From what i have been able to find on the web the up and down motion of the thread spring is used to sense if the thread is actually being pulled through the machine. this is how it detects if either the top thread or bobbin thread is broken. top thread not advancing and pulling the thread so that the thread spring goes up and down indicates one of the two is busted. Had a lot of responses to this on another forum with one person even sending pictures of what to look for and apparently this is a very common problem if the thread is not properly put through the eyelet of the thread spring and gets caught in the wire wrap of the thread spring. It just pulls it and breaks it. getting old and the eye sight is fading so just bought a lighted magnifying glass lamp to stop me from hurting my sweet little machine. So if you have one needle that is constantly giving you a false thread break indication this is where to look

Gx160 pull cord rope broken


1. Buy a starter repair kit or get five feet of nylon rope similar to what was in the starter from a Lowe's, The Home Depot or the like.
2. Remove the three bolts holding the starter on the motor and remove any remaining rope on the pulley.
3. Line the hole in the pulley up with the hole in the starter housing and thread the rope through both.
4. Tie a tight knot in the end of the rope and cut the tail off so it won't interfere with motor but not so short the knot comes undone.
5. Thread the other end of the rope through the t-handle and tie a knot in the very end so the handle won't come off and the rope won't be pulled into the starter during the next part.
6. Pull the rope up between the starter housing and pulley and get the rope into the notch in the pulley. Turn the pulley clockwise with the rope in the notch to put tention on the spring. Give it four turns.
7. When the notch gets back to the hole in the housing, hold the pulley and pull the rope back into place from outside the housing.
8. Let the pulley turn slowly so it retracts the rope.
9. You want four windings on the pulley and the t-handle to be held against the housing. If you don't get four windings on the pulley, give the pulley another tension turn (Step 6). If you have four windings and the t-handle isn't held against the housing or you get more that four windings, shorten the rope at the t-handle.
10. Reinstall the starter and you will be back in business.

I have a Kenmore 385.16126200. The tension is too loose. I have already turned the dial all the way to 9. Is there something else I could do?


I would check to make sure the spring is working in the dial, check to see if the dial is actually closing around, if not could be a bad spring in it. Also check to make sure the thread is totally in the dial. Hope this helps.

The start pull handle is out , how to fix it


The pull start cover rope & spring will need to be removed. it may be bolted on or riveted on if rivets drill them out when off you'll see the problem spring dislodged or broken rope broke repair & reassemble. watch as spring is tricky to wind up..

Bobbin not threading through, spool thread is gathering in bobbin catch and not sewing - just clumps of thread


It would appear to be threaded wrongly. Pull all the threads out, check the visible upper tension discs for broken threads then re-thread top and bobbin, making sure the pressure foot is up when you re-thread. Bobbins should normally turn clockwise when the tail of the thread is pulled. Make sure thread has gone under the tension spring.
Oddly enough, a blunt needle can occasionally cause this problem so if all else fails try changing the needle. Good luck

The m8x1.25 that thread into the rotor act like a "puller". Insert both bolts and turn them each 1 turn at a time until the rotor comes off. They can be stubborn some times.
