SOURCE: remote wire
there should be a remote wire for your amplifier on the back of your stereo if you have an aftermarket stereo. It's usually a blue wire, if not you can always hook it to the same remote wire as the one your stereo is running off of.

SOURCE: Amp or Stereo Cutting out...
I agree with what you think it might be. I really think its the deck that is bad and you should be able to take it back for a new one. Have you tried unplugging the RCA cables to the amp to see if that stops it? That would tell you if the amp is backfeeding or doing something weird.

SOURCE: Dual XDV8125 car stereo wiring
The best way to be sure is to get the car stereo installation plug for your year make and model car and wire that to plug for the back of the stereo then plug the installtion plug directly into the factory plug of the vehicle. If this is not an option then try to locate the dimmer wire (usually orange but this differs depending on vehicles so be careful). Also usually the wiring codes are printed on the radios top or bottom.Usually the dimmer wire controls the LCD power.

check to see if you have power going to the amp. Battery(+) and Negatve(ground). if those are ok, turn the radio on and check to see if the remote wire(it's usually blue) has power. if you have power on the battery wire and the remote wire from the radio, then there is a problem with your amp. check fuses on the amp if any.
