I can not put videos on My ONYX 2GB

You can load video files onto your player by plugging the player into your computer. It should try to autorun at which point you should select view folders.

If it doesn't autorun just go to Start>My Computer>Removable Disk

Locate the VIDEO folder and put your movie files in it without any subfolders.
Properly disconnect it from the computer, turn the player on, and press the menu button and select video from the list and play.

There are several steps that you have to go through to get video working on this player. First, you have to use a third-party utility to rip your commercial DVD so that the encryption is stripped off; I use Handbrake for the Mac to accomplish this, and I specify the resulting output file to be a 640 x 480 .AVI file with ffmpeg encoding. There are undoubtably similar Windows utilities for ripping DVD's, you'll have to research that part yourself on a site like Then you have to process this AVI file with the SMV utility supplied with the player on a Windows machine. The important thing to know is that THE DEFAULT SETTINGS WON'T GENERATE A WORKABLE VIDEO FILE! Dumb, I know, but that's why this player is cheap. What you have to do is select the custom settings mode of the converter, then select a resolution of 128 x 160, a sound bandwidth of 22 kb, a video bandwidth of 50 kb, and rotate left for the output. This will give you a workable SMV file that can be copied into the MOVIES folder of the player (it has to be in the special folder, or it won't find it). By the way, both of the conversion steps are pretty slow, depending on your computer's speed, so be patient. I found it best to rip one chapter of a DVD to prove out the process before committing to the all night process of ripping an entire DVD.

Problem with Onyx MP3 player

I had the same problem -- It will only play the first 10 seconds of the song and then it changes to something else --

so am trying this (below) that I found on their site...

Go to the "My Computer" section of your computer. In there you will find a section called "devices with removable storage"
Locate the drive created by the unit, generally just called Removable Disk, with a letter in Parenthesis. Drive letters vary depending on your system configuration
Open the drive by either double left clicking on the drive itself, or by right clicking, and left clicking on the open option on the menu
Locate the music stored on your computer. Generally this is stored in the "My Music" folder of your computer. NOTE: if you are unable to locate the music on your computer, click on start, search, files and folders, then search for *.MP3, *.WMA
Once you have located the song files, you can right click on the song itself, and select "copy". Open the removable disk drive, right click on in the empty space, and select Paste. This will transfer the song on to your MP3 player
Repeat step 7 for as many songs as you want to copy on to the unit.
