On an amp? All the devices should be replaced at once as they can measure or look good, but still have a high resistive leakage, and if this happens to save a couple of bucks, you can blow out all the devices you just replaced. The thing with solid state devices? Most of the time you cannot look at them and see they are bad unless they had a total blowout and blew apart and put a big hole into itself and then yes that ones bad and beleive me most of the others are too. Good Luck

SOURCE: nitro 1000 w amp
unplug the speakers and the RCA leads from the amp, if the red protection light is still lit then its 1 of your linear amps blown or mosfet depending what your amp uses..if the red light does go off with the leads all disconnected, then connect 1 lead at a time and check the light, when you connect the bad lead or speaker then the light will come on and you know that 1 needs replacing..hope this helps

SOURCE: Amp on "protect" mode
Hi, what you need to do is unplug all the connections to the amp. The amp goes into protection when the circuitry over heats.\
First decrease all your gains to minimal volume.
Connect your 12+V, remote, and ground.
See if the protection light comes on then.
Next plug in your RCA cables.
Check protection light.
Then plug in your subwoofer cables.
See if you are still in protect mode.
Hopefully everything works alright again.
Just slowly increase the gain to see what the cut-off is. Make sure you aren't dropping the ohmage too low on the amplifier. Check manual for correct wiring and such.
