To mrotu47182 and MaryGur - you may very well have different problems!

TO mrotu47182:

Chances are the magnetron overheated, blowing the "magnetron thermal cutout".

If you or someone you know decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

To MaryGur:

Your problem may be a bad keypad, but the first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have a bad keypad, assuming that your unit's display is on, but it won't respond to any key presses.

Is this your symptom?

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If it still doesn't work, it may be a bad door switch or door switch mount.

One quick check is to gently hold down on the door while you press Start (or Cook).

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

I have a Samsung model MR5492W microwave that burnt up in my RV which had a recall for this problem but I'm having trouble finding a replacement. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We have no way to look this up for you, it would likely be a custom made model oven for your application only and that is the problem. I would contact Samsung directly if I were you.

The start button stopped working. Everything else works on my MCD990B.

I think you are right on the money, the keypad control board is vital to the operation of the microwave oven, if the problem cannot be resolved it will require a complete replacement of the above mentioned part, unfortuneately cost should be considered.

Stopped turning and heating

The problem is one or two bad door switches, "more than likely" the less likely is the keypad control board.

I hit the start button on my Whirlpool microwave oven model no. MH7110XBB-5 but got nothing but a click. Any thoughts?

The control board that is located behind the keypad is the problem, I have seen the board develop bad solder connections around the relays. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can attempt a repair, remove top "2 to 6 screws" and remove keypad with control board attached "clipped or screwed in" remember to unplug microwave before you work on it.

I have a samsung microwave in our motorome. the power is on and I get the "Samsung 50 simple" indicator. However there is no response to the touchpad. The owner's manual says...

You have a bad keypad if you cant get it to respond at all.its also possible the door is not latched properly but usually the clock will set with the door open or closed so I doubt that is the issue
The display is actually saying "Samsung So Simple".

In case of a problem or clarification or my solution was insufficient, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

Keypad Problems

Sometimes a keypad may not work because the door switches are faulty. When the door switches are working correctly it will allow the keypad to operate. They tell the microwave that the door is closed and the unit is dafe to use.

Many models have 3 door switches, it's wise to get all 3 replaced at once.

Keypad going out

The main reason door switches go out is by opening the door while it's cooking, instead of hitting the STOP button first. Otherwise, like anything man made, they can fail. And for safety's sake, they should all be replaced when one is bad. If a keypad is failing repeatedly, I would suspect outside contamination or an inherently bad design. But I've not before heard of repeated keypad replacement. Moisture and contamination can be caused by not using the hood fan when boiling on the stove top, spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. Hope this helps.
