It just needs new solenoids. Easy fix and I've seen it happen many times. Just get those replaced and you should be up and running again like new. Good luck to you.

Lighting pilot light on kitchenaid dryer

It is all automatic, when you press start the power is sent to the gas assembly (if the timer is set for heat). The power originates from the cord to the timer to the temp control (on the blower housing) to the fuse next to the control, and to the gas assembly. The solenoids ignitor and flame sensor are all energized at once. The solenoids cannot release the gas unless the ignitor drops out of the circuit. That is the job of the flame sensor. Once the sensors bi-metal bends and opens the circuit, no more power goes to the ignitor< hoever, once the ignitor is glowing it generats a signal and becomes a thermogenerator with holds open the solenoid (holding coil) If for some reason the gas did not ignite the glow coil will cool off and shut down the solenoid. So what can go wrong? Lint buildup in the blower housing cause the fuse to melt. No power can be sent to the gas assembly. The flame sensor is open and not allowing power to the ignitor, the ignitor is open and not glowing. Old timey dryers had a pilot light. You hold down on the red lever and light the flame. Then release the lever and the pilot stays lit. I doubt if yours has a standing pilot. How modern gas dryer work:

Maytag atlantis model #mdg7600aww how do i light pilot

This gas dryer uses automatic ignition. Their is no pilot. The gas valve assembly consists of a glowbar/ignitor, a flame detection sensor and a pair of coils all cleverly wired in a complex series circuit. When the fuse allows the control to flow power to the gas assembly all of the gas assembly components are energized. The coils cannot open the valve however as long as the ignitor is glowing. When it gets red hot it heats the bimetal inside the flame detector which shuts off the power to the ignitor. When the ignitor glows it holds open one of the gas coils. The other gas coil has enough juice for it to open, then ignition occurs. Depending on how many clothes is in the drum and how wet they are detirmins a burn period. With nothing in the drum it heats up to temp promptly and therefore the gas stays on a shorter period of time. So what can go wrong? The fuse mounted next to the control on the blower housing will melt if the blower wheel is wobbly and worn out or their is a lint build up causing air flow blockage. The control stat might be bad (doubtful) unless it ain't shutting down and is melting the fuse. If power is indeed getting to the gas assembly I would check the sensor first. if it is open circuit no power will get to the ignitor. If that is fine check the ignitor for continuity. Note: If it works a little but quits, replace them solenoid coils on the assembly. When they get aged they tend to quit when hot. My home movie of how it works:

I see the ignitor element getting red but it will not light-off. I do not smell any gas, so I'm guessing it is not even coming out of the burner valve?? Would appreciate any help I can get. ...

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
If the glow coil does glow a very bright yellow white color, that solenoid is working. If the glow coil fails to light, replace that part only. <Use caution-glow coils are not cheap and break easily.>

If the coil glows but you do not hear the second click, which opens the second gas valve to allow the gas to exit to the burner, you will need to remove the gas valve assembly and replace both solenoids.

The solenoids are located on the top of the gas valve and are black plastic coated spool looking items. They are held in place by a retaining plate.

Carefully, remove and replace them with the new ones. <They only fit on the steel rod one way.> Replace the gas valve assembly, attach the quick disconnect wire clips and soap test the gasline nut you unconnected.

If the soap test proves there isn't any gas leaks, fire up the dryer and your done.

My maytag mdg4000 will not heat. all the lights are on . drum turns.gas connection is good

First, check the ignitor and see if it is working. It should glow visibly if it is working. If the ignitor is working, but the burner won't light, the most likely cause are the gas valve coils. These electrical coils are located right above the gas valves. When energized, these solenoids open the gas valves and permit the burner to light. If defective, they don't permit the gas valves to open. Due to the difficulty in testing these solenoids, it is recommended that both (all) be replaced at once if any are suspected of being faulty. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Tumbling fine no hot air. is a gas dryer

First, check that the ignitor is working properly. It should glow visibly if it is working. If the ignitor seems to be functioning properly, then I would suspect the gas valve coils. These electrical coils are right above the gas valves and when these solenoids are energized they open the gas valves and permit the burner to light. If they are faulty, the gas valves don't open so no gas gets to the burner. Due to the difficulty in testing these solenoids, it is recommended that both (all) be replaced at the same time if any are suspected of being faulty. Hope this helps and best wishes.

I have a gas dryer. the drum is turning but is not heat , the valve is open,

First, check that the ignitor is operating properly. It should glow an orange color and the glow should be noticeable if it is working. If the ignitor seems to be working, then I would look at the gas valve coils. These coils are right above the gas valves. These are solenoids that, when energized, open the gas valves and permit the burner to light. If any are defective, the gas valves don't open and the burner cannot light. Due to the difficulty in testng these solenoids, it is recommended that both (all) be replaced at the same time if any are suspected of being faulty. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Whirlpool 110.76722690 gas clothes dryer spins but no heat

First, check that the ignitor is working properly. If it is working properly, it should glow an orange color when activated. If the ignitor is defective, it will need replaced. If the ignitor is working properly, the problem is most likely the gas valve coils. These small black coils are situated directly above the gas valves. These solenoids, when energized, open the gas valves and permit the burner to light. If any are defective, the valves cannot open and the burner cannot light. Due to the difficulty in testing these solenoids, it is best to replace both (all) of them at once if they are suspected of being faulty. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Whilpool dryer m#ggw9868k02 ignitor glows but no flame

If the ignitor is working properly, the problem most likely lies with the gas valve coils. They are located just above the gas valves. These solenoids, when energized, open the gas valves and allow the burner to light. Since these solenoids are hard to test, if any are suspected of being faulty, it is best to replace both (all) of them at the same time. Hope this helped and best wishes.
