Question about Toshiba Satellite 1800-S204 Notebook

1 Answer

Need to restore my laptop to factory settings.

I have attempted holding the "0" key as well as "F1" and "F8", none of which restore my laptop to factory settings. Note: I do not want to system restore it to an earlier date, I want factory settings. Also, I know that I will lose all data by doing this, which is not an issue. Thanks for the help in advance. :)

You need to get a recovery CD for your model Toshiba laptop from the Toshiba support WEB site.

  • Bob Thomson Jan 13, 2013

I am 100% sure that is not the only way to resolve this issue.

The easiest way is to get a recovery CD. This has the Windows OS and the laptop's device drivers. The otherway is to get a Windows installation CD and use the Windows installation code that is printed on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop and after the Windows installation you need to download and install the laptop's device drivers from the Toshiba WEB site.

Cant restore to factory settings tried 0,f1 and f8 none work

When your Toshiba Satellite laptop goes on the fritz, there are several instances where the best solution is to delete everything and start over. If your system frequently crashes or you can't remove a specific virus, you may want to restore the laptop back to original factory settings. While the easiest way to restore the system is to use the operating system restore disc, it is possible to restore the system without it. Each Satellite laptop also includes a hard drive recovery utility that lets you restore the operating system without the restore disc.

1. Take account of any files or programs you still want to use after the Toshiba laptop is restored back to its factory settings. Transfer the files to a backup location, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

2. Restart the Toshiba Satellite laptop's operating system. Wait for the Toshiba logo to appear on the screen.

3. Press the key that brings up the hard drive disk utility menu. Depending on the specific model of your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the key will either be "0," "F1," or "F8."

4. Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.

5. Restart the Toshiba laptop computer when the restoration process finishes running. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, time and language settings.

6. Transfer the backup copies of the data you saved earlier back to the Toshiba's hard drive. Re-install any programs you need, such as your software firewall or anti-virus tool.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.com

I am trying to reset my toshibe m45 s165 to its factory settings, but when i try the whole press "0" and power at the same time, the laptop keeps turning off since im holding the power button,...

Do not hold the power button down while pressing the "0" key - it'll shut the computer off again. You just need to push it once to turn the power on and then hold the "0" key immediately after you push the power button on - just like turning on the laptop, but this time you're holding the "0" key down.

System restore factory settings no cd

Toshiba has built in system recovery partition in your hard drive

Make sure to back up important files in your Laptop to usb or portable hard disk before doing this.

Warning: In using System Recovery you files will be deleted, your laptop will be back to its factory settings

To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.
