Hi.....

If you would like to secure your wireless connection - see Secure Your Wireless Router for an outline of how to do this. This includes advice on setting a network key (wireless encryption password)

For the details, you might want to download a manual from the Netgear site if you don't have one - just locate your model in the dropdown box.

If you need assistance, please come back to Fixya with your model number, and let us know how we can help....

Good luck

I have asked a question. What is my NETGEAR 71 password

There is a small pen sized hole on the back of the router. Use a ball point pen to press and hold down the reset button for a bout 15 seconds.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.

In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.

When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password). NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.

I have a netgear readyNAS NV+ that i want to reset the password.

Whether you bought a used Netgear router or just forgot your own password, you can reset it and start over.

This is not an unusual problem, so Netgear has made resetting and restarting their routers a simple task

Connect all of your devices.
If your Netgear router is not already connected, it should be plugged in, with one Ethernet cable connecting it to your computer and a second Ethernet cable connecting it to your computer's modem.

Locate the reset button on the rear of your Netgear router.
The reset button is a small inset button and requires a pointed object to reach it.

Use a fine-tipped pen to hold the button down for at least 10 seconds.
The test light should flash during this process.

Open your Internet browser and enter the Netgear router's IP address into the address bar to access the router's information. Generally, Netgear routers use the IP address 192.168.0.1, but the specific IP address will be listed in the router's manual.

Attempt to log in to the router with the default username and password.
The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password."

If the router's username and password were not cleared away, unplug the router and try holding down the reset button.

While you are holding down the reset button, plug the router back in.
Log in to the router using the default "admin" username and "password" as the password.

You can now reset your information, rename your router and enter your own username and password.

Debug netgear router

I don't think it's the NetGear. Shut down the computer, unplug, remove battery, if applicable, unplug NetGear, wait for 30 seconds or so, plug in Netgear, wait for selftest, plug in computer, reboot. I don't know the laptop or OS you are using so a general idea is all I can give. Does your NetGear have a SSID and Security Password? You can always reset to default settings. That said, I think it's your laptop that the issue. Have you tried to connect via a Ethernet Cable? Have you open the Network Adapters , and disabled and enables, tried a Diagnose and repair ? Have you opened the network and sharing center , Manage Network adapters and remove from Auto connect? Restart and select your wireless, put in your password.

How do I set up my router

a router is the second peice in the loop of home networking. so you first need to come with an ethernet cable from the modem to the router, the port closest to the antenne. after this you can plug in to from the router to your computer, any port is fine. now you can use the router by it own software. type in to your browser (say IE explorer) the numbers 192.168.1.1
User Name = admin and Password = password, unless you changed it
and continue on to change and put in the wireless WEP codes and such.

a video tutorial is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0xGvXWUAfI
You definatly want to encrypt your network as you dont want people on your net slowing you down.
http://www.netgear.com/products/home/wirelessrouters/simplesharing/WGR614.aspx

and to upgrade the firmware and follow manual instructions for version http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2723/kw/WGR614%20manual

I cant find my wi-fi password can you help please ???

The WiFi password is the encryption key is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the
Netgear configuration URL
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I am trying to connect another computer to my wireless network but i do not know my netgear code, where do i find this?

Netgear code? Can you be more specific?

Are you referring to the password required to connect to your wireless network called "Netgear"? I assume you're being asked for a password on the 2nd computer when trying to connect to the wireless network called "Netgear".

  1. In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.
  2. When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password) unless you have already changed it. NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.
  3. Select Wireless Settings from the Setup menu in the left-hand navigation bar.
  4. Under Wireless Network, enter your desired network name in the Name (SSID) box. This is currently set to "Netgear" most likely.
  5. Under Security Options, select WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].
  6. Under Security Options (WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK), enter your desired network password into the Passphrase box.
    • WRITE DOWN or KEEP NOTE of your network name, security option and passphrase - you will require them to connect wireless computers and devices to your network.
  7. Click Apply to save the settings.
Once you've set this password, you can use it to connect to "Netgear" on your second computer.

Internet speed is very slow with NET GEAR WGR614 router

MTU Adjustment

1. Access the web-based utility of the router.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

2. Adjust the MTU setting.

a. Click on the WAN Setup under Advanced tab.
b. Lower down the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1358 or 1300.
c. Click on the Apply button.

Note: You may verify from your ISP the recommended MTU size you can use.
