Have a black-out square appear on some channels especially FOX

Suddenly after owning this Broksonic 19' TV/VCR for several years, some channels are having a black-out square appear. Suspecting a child block went to menu-v/chip but it is off. Don't know what to do? Please Help.

Apgonzo, thank-you sooo very much for your reply. I have no owner's manual but when I go into MENU I am unable to find access anything about Text or Closed Caption. I do have a button on my remote that when I press it it says: TEXT CH1 or press again and it says TEXT CH2 press again and it says CAPTION CH1 press again it says CAPTION CH2. I don't want closed caption or this black-out box so how can I turn them off? Tanks again. SC

I no longer have an owners manual. I do believe you are right about it having something to do with the closed caption button on my remote. It must have gotten pressed or set accidentally. Thanks for the input. Any other ideas welcome.

Same thing... suddenly will not "allow" one channel to be seen

go to tv menu, do an "autoprogram" and it will select all available channels.
You can also do an add/remove channel and manually delete the channels you know you don't have.
You can also change your tv from air to CATV (cable) On cable tv you can still get all the air channels and Fox just the numbers will be different, but you may have a better signal

Square box in middle of t.v. black everywhere else.

Turn off the closed-captioning. If it's set for text mode, the screen will blank out an area for the text to be displayed. On channels or programs where captions aren't being used you won't see any problems, but other times you'll have the mysterious black box. Many TV remotes have a single button to control captions, so it's easy to get into text mode without knowing it.

Black Square

I had the same problem with DVDs. It turrned out that I turned the closed caption on a few days earlier, so I turned the "closed caption" off and the problem went away.

Screen problem

That's the text box function of the closed caption decoder. Look for buttons with "CAP", "TEXT","CCD", or "CLOSED CAPTION". Look in menu for same.

Picture problem

You have the closed captioning turned on to "Text" mode. Turn off the CC and it will go away.
