Does it have power? If the battery is drained, it will NOT boot straight up when you plug it into your pc or docking station. You need to plug it in for a good hour before trying to boot it up. Once you've managed to boot it up, give it a full reboot by pushing a pin in the tiny hole at the bottom.

Hi on the base of the unit to the left hand side are two outlets, under the far l/h one is a small hole(it should be marked reset) yours could have worn away.
Straighten a small paperclip and insert carefully into the hole when resistance is felt, push just a very, very small amount more. Remember GENTLY DOES IT
I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it These are the steps i followed
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc
* When the white screen comes up do format
* Wait until all done then put the firmware in to the root sector of the Archos
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug in back to pc
it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start
Update you will see the progress bar moving wait until it is all done
and it will shut off. Turn it back on Your archos will be back to normal.
When you go to download from Archos site it will explain how to download depending upon how your device pops up on your Pc.
Hope this helps
This may work but it may not my Archos use to do something like that too. What you do is when it comes on press the on but again but not hard or long enough for it to shut down and tap the screen do this reaptedly untill you see the red light start to flas reaptedly really quickly without stop then it will stop and flash two or three more times untill you see your screen come up oh nd next time dont full shutdown just suspend it it is easier and it doesnt take up battery life either.
Hi, my Archos 605 160GB is doing the same, Sorry to say the battery has gone. 2 options 1. Back to Archos 2. Replace the battery yourself I ordered mine from HK from the web site BatteryUpgrade. co. uk for about £24 - If you search on Utube there is a video showing you how to change the battery on smaller 605's
I suffered the same problem as you, fortunately I fixed it after a lot of messing around.
First what you want to do is switch off the system completely. Once the power light is off, switch the system back on, once the LCD screen turns on, immediately press and hold down the YV/LCD screen for about 5 seconds, a white screen should appear.
You will have three options, click the second option, (i think it is repair) and connect the archos to the PC. This will allow you to transfer all your files to PC because you can access the harddrive.
Once you have taken all the files you want, turn the system off again. Then again, turn the system on, hold down the TV/LCD button for 5 seconds until the white screen appears. Choose the format option. This will take your archos back to factory settings. It took me a few goes to get it back to normal but once its done, you will be glad you put the effort in.
Now all there is to do is to take your files back across via cable and you should be done!
Hi,when this happens, please plug USB charger and run the Archos..if it runs immediately the HD and system is okay but the battery should be the faulty element. So just replace the battery. That was the case for my Archos 604 and than after battery replacement it was corrected. Regards Kazim ERGUNEY
